Shawn Marion to Media: Stop ‘Distracting’ Me With Your Trade Rumors

by Marcel Mutoni

In this age of the 24-hour news cycle, we sometimes forget that the players we write and read about on a daily basis are human beings like the rest of us, with real feelings and emotions.

Take Shawn Marion, for instance, whose name appears in trade talks virtually every other day. Shawn is (rightfully) tired of being incessantly asked about the possibility of wearing a different uniform.

From the Palm Beach Post:

“I’m actually tired of it,” he said tersely after practice. “I’m really tired of it. It’s very distracting. I’m trying to focus on what I’m trying to do here and I keep getting bombarded with all this other stuff.”

“Of course it’s going to have an affect on anybody because ya’ll keep bringing it up and asking,” he said. “If nobody brings it up and nobody talks about it, it’s not going to be an issue. Think about it.”

What’s funny (and sad) is that, throughout his career, Marion has had no issue with telling the media just how unhappy he was with a certain a situation, which of course only invited more questions about trades.

It’s the nature of the beast, Shawn. You’ll just to learn to live with it.
