Earlier this month, veteran center LaMarcus Aldridge and the San Antonio Spurs agreed to mutually part ways. At that point, he would no longer take the floor for the Spurs as they looked for trade partners ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.
However, San Antonio wasn’t able to find a suitor for the seven-time NBA All-Star.
As first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Aldridge and the Spurs completed a buyout today that would allow him to become a free agent and join the contender of his choosing. Aldridge gave back $7.25 as part of the buyout and is expected to have the Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers in the mix as his top options.
Although he’s in the final stretch of his career at 35-years-old, Aldridge still has plenty to contribute in the right role.
In 21 games for the Spurs this season, he’s produced 13.7 points (while shooting .360 from 3-point range), 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.9 blocks per game.
