Welcome to the Amare Derby

by Marcel Mutoni

As soon as it became public knowledge that the Phoenix Suns were willing to listen to trade offers for Amare Stoudemire, practically every one of their foes has expressed interest in the opportunity to land the freakishly-skilled forward.

According to CBS Sports, the Suns are in talks with no less than half a dozen teams about a possible trade:

The Phoenix Suns have engaged in trade talks with at least five or six teams, including the Pistons, Bulls, Nets, and Warriors, in their efforts to find the best offer for Amare Stoudemire, multiple league sources told CBSSports.com.

In the past 48 hours, the Suns’ posture on Stoudemire has advanced from accepting calls to placing them, an indication that they’ve accelerated efforts to pull off sweeping changes before the Feb. 19 trade deadline.

My favorite trade scenario for Amare is the Detroit one. And of course, he loves it too:

“It would be phenomenal. I think the fans here have been probably the top fans in the world since I’ve been in the NBA. They’re always cheering their team on and every time we come here, their always loud and rowdy, so it would be fun to play here.”

A team where everyone has a heart attack whenever the idea of one of the stars coming off the bench is brought up, bringing in a guy who so nakedly covets being “The Man”? Perfect!
