St. Pat’s suspended from NJ Tournament

As reported by Matthew Stanmyre of nj.com and the Star-Ledger, St. Patrick High School’s appeal for injunctive relief was denied this morning by a federal court in Newark, New Jersey.  This will prematurely end the season for St. Pat’s with a record of 26-3, and prevent the team from competing in the state tournament. In addition to concluding St. Patrick’s defense of their 2009 Tournament of Champions title, Coach Kevin Boyle was suspended for three games and the school will be under probation for the next two years.  The court’s decision is the result of charges that Coach Boyle was present at open gym workouts prior to the official commencement of the season.

Our own Franklyn Calle wrote about this controversy last week and was not feeling the state’s efforts…
