Cade Cunningham Becomes Youngest Player in Pistons’ History To Record Triple-Double

Despite the Pistons’ 121-116 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, Cade Cunningham has shown steady progress in his first 11 games, averaging 14.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists. The matchup, however, gave us a glimpse at how impactful Cunningham is all across the floor, notching his first career triple-double.

His 13 points, 12 boards and 10 dimes cemented himself as the youngest player in Detroit Pistons’ history to record a triple-double at 20 years and 57 days old and the 8th-youngest player in the League’s history to do so. Cunningham also joined some elite Detroit company, becoming one of three Pistons rookies to record a triple-double according to StatMuse, alongside Dave DeBusschere and Grant Hill.

With that, Cunningham is in a league of his own as he’s the only Detroit rookie to record a triple-double in the first 11 games of his career, as well as the 13th player to do so in NBA history.

Cunningham had seven assists in the first half, during which the Pistons scored a season-high 68 points.

“I think we made some progress. Now we know we’ve got to close out fourth quarters. I’m happy to see I was able to accomplish [a triple-double]—that’s big-time. But winning the game is even greater than that. I’m still going to go home kind of sour we lost,” Cunningham said postgame.

Cunningham and the 4-12 Pistons’ next matchup will be against the Miami Heat at home on Tuesday.
