Charlotte Declines Qualifying Offer for Dwayne Bacon

Less than 24 hours after selecting LaMelo Ball with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Hornets have cut ties with one of their younger guards.

Charlotte made the announcement official on Thursday that they would not extend a qualifying offer to Dwayne Bacon, which will make him an unrestricted free agent.

Bacon only appeared in 39 games last season for the Hornets, averaging 5.7 points per contest on a poor .284 from deep. He spent some time with the Greensboro Swarm of the G League last season as well, averaging 31.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest through nine games.

For Bacon, this is a chance for a new beginning. He’s spent his entire career in Charlotte since he was drafted in 2017. Still just 25 years old, a team could find value in taking a chance on him.
