Former Duke Star Jahlil Okafor Waived by Brooklyn Nets

Former third overall draft pick Jahlil Okafor‘s NBA career hasn’t gone the way he’d have imagined, but now the future of his career is entirely up in the air.

On Thursday, the Brooklyn Nets announced that they would be waiving Okafor with just a few weeks remaining before preseason.

Okafor spent last season with the Detroit Pistons, playing in 27 games and averaging 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. In recent years Okafor has struggled to see the court, having played in 30 or fewer games the past two seasons and never having played more than 60 games in a season during his career.

Over Okafor’s career, he has played in 247 games with four different teams and has career averages of 10.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

The Nets will now have an additional roster spot available to either sign a free agent or make a trade. Training camp is right around the corner for the Nets, and the rest of the NBA, starting on Sept. 28.
