Joel Embiid Agrees to 4-Year, $196 Million Supermax Deal with Sixers

Four-time All-Star Joel Embiid, the face of the Philadelphia 76ers, will be staying in City of Brotherly Love for the foreseeable future after signing a four-year, $196 million supermax extension with the Sixers, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reports.

The 2021 NBA MVP runner-up, Embiid’s contract takes him through the 2026-27 season, guaranteeing him a total of $261 million. Embiid was already set to make $65 million over the remaining two years on his current deal.

He became eligible for the extension after finishing second in MVP voting and making the All-NBA second team while averaging 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds in 51 games during the regular season.

While Embiid’s contract is fully guaranteed, his contract extension includes a player option in the final season. However, doesn’t include the same provisions that protected Embiid’s guaranteed money by way of injury like the contract he signed back in 2017.
