Trendon Watford Signs Four-Year Deal With the Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers are signing rookie forward Trendon Watford to a four-year $5.8 million deal that will include two non-guaranteed seasons.

The undrafted rookie out of LSU made a significant impact on the Blazers, averaging 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in their last ten games.

The Blazers will also waive guard Dennis Smith Jr. after Portland announced he suffered a high-grade tear of the UCL in his right elbow that’s kept him sidelined since February 11.

In 2019, Watford was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and played two seasons for the LSU Tigers, where he was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2020. In his sophomore campaign with the Tigers, he averaged 16.3 points per game and 7.4 rebounds, leading LSU to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Trail Blazers (25-34) return to action against the Warriors (42-17).
