Thirty-five middle school student-athletes arrived at Albany Community Charter School to participate in the fifth annual Positive Impact New York Blackboards & Backboards Student-Athlete Academy. The academy is designed to assist student-athletes as they navigate their way through the recruiting journey.

The day started off with media training with Kevin Beattie of RPI and combine testing with Zach Manolakes. Participants were tested on their 20-yard dash, pro agility drill and box drill. Executive Director Terrell Dozier then addressed the student-athletes about building their personal brands. Later, Doneilous King of Doneilous King Basketball Academy put the athletes through a rigorous one hour workout, while Brittany Burnham of HIIT with Brit and Joe Shields of Shields Fitness put them through an additional strength, conditioning, speed and agility workout. In addition, Dan Taylor of Siena College and Ryan Mitchell of Sage College talked to the camp about strength and conditioning and sports nutrition.

Overall, the camp was, and continues to be, a huge success, as it reaches student-athletes all over the Capital Region.
