"I like fashion because I like how it makes me feel. To me,
confidence is beauty."

It’s a saturday night in late August in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle, and the reigning LeagueFits MVP, Skylar Diggins-Smith, is shopping at local thrift shop Throwbacks NW.

On this evening, we’re filming an episode of “Catch My Thrift,” sponsored by Crown Royal, as she walks around the store, flipping through different clothing items on the racks while speaking on the impact that fashion has had on her.

“If I had to describe my personal style in one sentence, I would say I wear what I like,” she says. “I like fashion because I like how it makes me feel.”

“To me, confidence is beauty. And when I’m dressed up, you know, I really have that look good, feel good, play good, kind of mantra. But just even in general, I just like how clothes make me feel. I like to express myself, show mood, and it just makes me feel good inside.”

Skylar is not only an OG on the court but also in the tunnel. She’s been getting fly and breaking necks with her fits since Day 1 in the W.

As the crossover between fashion and basketball continues to evolve and reach new heights, we have legends like Skylar to thank for helping play a big role in it for over the past decade.

“When I first got into the League, which was 2013, we wore hard, business casual. [Like], we were about to do your taxes. We were dressed like straight-up accountants,” Skylar recalls. “There was not a lot of swag to it. It was just straight up like you’re about to go to work in a cubicle.”

“No shade, but I’m just saying. That’s how we dressed. I think that’s how the League kind of wanted us to look.”

“To see it come way full circle and getting to add elements of futurism and a few other things to where now you’re dressing it up. It’s not just straight-up suits, but now you’re playing with the silhouettes, you’re playing with different elements, metallics, patterns, textures and things like that and mixing it. It’s come full circle for me.”
