After Eric Gordon missed a runner, New Orleans Hornets rookie big man Anthony Davis managed to tip-in the game-winning shot, for a stunning 87-86 win over the visiting Boston Celtics. Per the Times-Picayune: “After the shot, Davis let out a loud yell of emotion. Hornets forward Ryan Anderson raised his hands in celebration and Coach Monty Williams smiled probably for the first time in a week. Finally, the Hornets (23-46) made a game-clinching play instead of unraveling down the stretch. ‘It’s exciting – that’s a big win for us,’ said Davis, who missed the Hornets’ morning shootaround because of a stomach ailment but played 28 minutes against the Celtics and scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. ‘We called a play for Eric to go to the basket and I knew everybody was going to help. He’s an fantastic scorer, and when he got to the basket, I was just following like I was supposed to do and got the layup.’ […] ‘It’s unreal feeling for us to come back and beat a team like Boston who is going to the playoffs and has so much experience,’ Hornets Coach Monty Williams said. ‘For our guys to play defense the way that we did in the second half says a lot about us and when we do things the way we plan on doing them we are capable of competing with any team.'”
