WATCH: Marc Gasol Scores a Career-High 38 Points vs Pelicans

Behind Marc Gasol’s big night—a career-high 38 points to go along with thirteen boards—the Memphis Grizzlies held on for a 113-104 road win Tuesday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The big fella had been averaging 38 minutes over the last 12 ballgames; he played 42 minutes in this one.

The Grizz have now won two in a row.

Per the Commercial Appeal:

Gasol showed up to work on this night with a point to prove. Literally. […] “I wanted to impose a little bit of my will and look at the basket a little more instead of looking at mismatches and where the help was at and all of those things,” Gasol said. “How tall is the basket? 10 feet? I looked up there a little more often.”

Gasol also connected on a career-high 16 free throws, handed out six assists and collected four blocked shots. Still, the normally pass-happy big man attacked from the opening tip and took a game off from being analytical. […] “Instead of trying to get everybody else going and trying to read what was in front of me I just went ahead and tried to be a little bit more aggressive,” Gasol said.

“I didn’t feel good about taking him out (each time) but I knew he was going back in three minutes later,” Griz coach Dave Joerger said about Gasol, who also picked up his first career triple-double this season during a Nov. 20 win over the Houston Rockets.
