For the second game in a row, Russell Westbrook stuffed the stat-sheet with a triple-double—his fifth of the season—finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists.
Kevin Durant added 24 points and ten boards, in the OKC Thunder’s 99-74 blowout of the visiting Miami Heat.
Dwyane Wade turned 34 Sunday, and was asked to compare his gracefully aging game to the relentless explosion Westbrook plays with.
Per The Oklahoman:
But there Wade was Sunday night, getting serenaded with “Happy Birthday” from the Oklahoma City crowd — “That was cool,” Wade said, “much appreciated.” — and then threatening to send Loud City home unhappy. Wade scored 18 points first-half points, some on trick shots and Houdini moves, and Miami was down just two points. […] “His game is timeless,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.
In some ways, it was like watching a young Wade. There’s really never been anyone like Westbrook, but I’ve always thought the closest thing to Westbrook has been a young Wade. Athletic. Multi-talented. Determined. Cold-blooded. […] “Reckless?” asked Wade. “He’s even more athletic than I was, for sure,” Wade said. “But I look at a lot of things he has, I see a player that’s close to what I was when I was young. He’s that kind of player. He’s dynamic. He’s very special.”
Makes you sort of wonder what Westbrook will be like at 34. Will he be crafty? Will he rely on guile? Will he play more like Andre Miller than this Westbrook we’ve come to know? Or will Westbrook still be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? […] “Nah, I take it one day at a time,” Westbrook said after his second straight triple double and his fifth of the season. “I don’t go with the future. I just wake up in the morning and take it one day at a time.”
