Mookie Blaylock to Face Charges in Fatal Car Wreck

Following a car crash that left a woman dead, former NBA star Mookie Blaylock’s condition has been been upgraded from critical to serious. But he’s not out of the woods quite yet — Blaylock will face at least two charges. Per the AJC: “Jonesboro Police Chief Franklin Allen left open whether any other charges would be brought against the former star, the Associated Press reported Sunday. As it is, Allen said the 46-year-old Blaylock will face charges of driving on a suspended license and failing to stay in his lane. Police have not yet been able to talk with Blaylock, whose condition was upgraded from critical to serious Saturday by the Atlanta Medical Center. The wreck happened around 1 p.m. Friday, as Blaylock drove a Cadillac Escalade northbound on Tara Boulevard. For unknown reasons, he crossed over the median and into a southbound lane. His SUV struck another vehicle head-on. Police said the driver of the second vehicle, Frankie Murphy, was not seriously injured. Monica Murphy, 40, who was sitting in the passenger seat, died Friday evening from her injuries. Allen said that Blaylock had an outstanding warrant out of Spalding County on DUI and drug charges for failing to appear in court. Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the Friday wreck. Blaylock has been under treatment for seizures, a family member told police. It was not immediately known if that contributed to the wreck.”
