Knicks point guard Derrick Rose, who is celebrating his 28th birthday today, will make his Knicks debut tonight in the team’s preseason opener against the Rockets.

Afterwards, he will hop on a flight to Los Angeles for trial, having been excused by the judge from attending today’s jury selection so that he could play.

Here’s more regarding Rose’s thoughts on the matter, per the NY Daily News:

Facing a flight to L.A. on Wednesday and missed Knicks practices, Derrick Rose was more eager for exoneration than a quick solution.

“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to take it to court,” the point guard said, “because I didn’t want to settle.”

“I feel like I didn’t do anything wrong,” he added. “I feel like if I just go up there and tell my side of the story I think I’ll be alright.”

With everything that’s been happening, Rose has especially valued his time with the team:

Rose said being able to be with his teammates Tuesday was “a blessing” after much uncertainty about his status because of the trial.

“It’s being around my teammates and being around people that have the same goals as you and what you’re trying to achieve. It’s distracting me from almost anything,” he said. “And today’s my B-day, so that’s kind of distracting me, too.”
