In Kevin Murphy’s last game, his team scored 50 points. Against SIU-Edwardsville on Monday, Murphy had 50 of his own as Tennessee Tech won, 98-80.

Murphy thwarted any defense, connecting on 16 of his 21 shots. The senior guard went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and made 12 of his 14 free throws. It was the most points scored by a player in Division I this season, and he did it in just 34 minutes.

Entering the game, Murphy was averaging 20.0 ppg, and it was just two games ago that he established his previous career-high of 34 points.

From SIUECougars.com:

“Our defense was poor tonight,” SIUE Head Coach Lennox Forrester said. “We didn’t do a great job of containing Murphy. Give credit to him, he’s very explosive offensively. Our guys were soft on him to where he was shooting jump shots.”

If Murphy is looking for an encore, he might want to wait until Feb. 25. That’s when Tennessee Tech will take on No. 10 Murray State, the only remaining unbeaten team in the country.
