Tyler Zeller Out Indefinitely With a Concussion, Cheekbone Fracture

Cavaliers rookie big man Tyler Zeller took a nasty, inadvertent elbow to his grill courtesy of DeAndre Jordan on Monday night. Zeller has a concussion and a fractured cheekbone as a result, and Cleveland announced today that he’s out indefinitely. Per the News-Herald: “X-rays taken at the arena were negative. However, he was re-examined at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, where a CT scan revealed a non-displaced fracture of his left orbital cheek bone. The 7-foot, 250-pounder also suffered a concussion. He’s been placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol process. He will continue to be monitored and evaluated, and a treatment plan will be established by Cavs head team physician Dr. Richard Parker and Cleveland Clinic Sports Health. No specific timeline for his return has been established. Zeller was ruled out of the Golden State game Wednesday night. It’s very unlikely he’d play in Phoenix on Friday, either. Zeller, the No. 17 pick in the 2012 draft from North Carolina, was averaging 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in his first four games. He was shooting 50 percent from the field. He had his best game of the young season on Monday with 15 points and seven rebounds in the Cavs’ 108-101 win over the Clippers.”
