Sue Bird Moves Up to Third On WNBA All-Time Steals List

Another day, another WNBA record broken for Sue Bird. Bird recorded two steals during Sunday’s 81-65 victory against the Indiana Fever, moving her to third on the WNBA’s all-time steals list.

Bird, who now has 711 career steals, passed former Mystics and Sparks guard Alana Beard for the third spot.

The 2022 season has been a victory lap of sorts for Bird, who announced in June that this year will be her final WNBA season. Bird’s climb on the all-time steals list comes less than a month after the 41-year-old became the winningest player in WNBA history following a victory over the Las Vegas Aces in June.

Bird recently played in her final All-Star game and will finish her career with 13 All-Star game appearances. The four-time WNBA Champ and five-time Olympic Gold Medalist received a standing ovation from the All-Star crowd in Chicago.

Bird is looking for a final championship push with the Seattle Storm, who currently stands at 17-8 and are jostling with the Las Vegas Aces for the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference.

Bird is averaging 7.8 points, 6.0 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game in 20 games this season.
