Tina Charles Headed to Seattle Storm

Tina Charles will be a member of the Seattle Storm after officially signing a deal with the team on Tuesday.

Charles was with the Mercury after signing as a free agent in February, but the franchise and Charles agreed on a contract divorce on Saturday.

“We are excited to add one of the premier players in our league to our roster; Tina is a prolific scorer who brings veteran experience and adds depth to our front court. We look forward to seeing the immediate impact she can make for our team,” Storms Coach Noelle Quinn said.

According to ESPN, Charles was reportedly deciding between the Storm and the Mercury but ultimately chose Phoenix because of the role they were offering her. However, it seems as though that didn’t pan out after Charles and the Mercury agreed on a buy-out.

Charles set two records in Phoenix, making the top five for the All-time scoring list and her incredible 3500 rebound record, but she also scored the fewest points in her career. Charles only averaged 14.8 field goal attempts per game in 16 games, the fewest since her rookie season in 2010.

Charles led the WNBA in scoring back in 2021 after averaging 23.4 points per game while on the Washington Mystics. It’s clear that Charles wants to get back on top by being an active player and a high scorer. Most importantly, she wants to win a WNBA championship, which the Storm has the potential to do.
