WNBA and Fans Vote Diana Taurasi as the Greatest Player of All Time

One of the biggest debates between NBA fans is which player achieved GOAT status. The WNBA honored Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi as the League’s greatest of all time in a special “Vote for the GOAT” election, which is part of the WNBA’s celebration of its 25th season.

The WNBA allowed their fanbase to vote on various media platforms including WNBA.com, the WNBA App and Twitter from Sept. 5-19.  Fans were able to vote for the 25 greatest and most influential players in WNBA history put together by a panel of media members and pioneers in women’s basketball.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert shared some inspiring words about Taurasi via an official release on WNBA.com.

“Congratulations to Diana Taurasi on being voted as the Greatest WNBA player of all time by the fans who have followed her illustrious career and saw her rise above the rest. This well-deserved recognition reflects her sustained excellence on the court and her leading role in advancing the WNBA and women’s basketball and being a role model for young athletes everywhere.  The opportunity to honor Dee is yet another special moment in celebration of our historic 25th season.”

Taurasi’s name is all over WNBA’s record books as the League’s career leader in points, field goals made and three-point field goals made in both the regular season and the playoffs—with career averages of 19.4 points, 4.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 472 games. She’s the all-time leader in All-WNBA Team selections with 14 and her ten WNBA All-Star selections ranks her second.

In her 17-year WNBA career with Phoenix, the first overall pick of the 2004 WNBA Draft has won three WNBA championships, two WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player awards and one regular-season MVP award.
