When Danny Ainge put the current Celtics team together this past summer, everyone who cares about the franchise was elated. Soon thereafter, though, they began asking questions like, “The Big Three is great, but who else do we got?!” So far, the answers haven’t been very satisfactory.

Gary Payton thinks he could provide some of those answers for the C’s. He told his agent that he’d like to join Boston.

“He called me and said, ‘Hey, I’m reminding you that the Celtics are a team I feel like I can help,’ ” said agent Aaron Goodwin.

The 39-year old GP says he doesn’t mind coming off the bench or making the veteran’s minimum of $1.2 million.

Am I the only one that pictures Gary Payton doing this sort of thing – joining the team he feels has the best shot at a title in any given year – until he becomes a senior citizen?
