Rajon Rondo Says Losing Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce Wasn’t Hard

The Boston Celtics blew up their team this summer — trading away Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and even their head coach, Doc Rivers. Rajon Rondo says he didn’t bat an eyelash while the C’s world burned all around him. Per the Boston Herald: “Danny Ainge ‘guessed’ that Rondo may not play until December, and Rondo did little to alter that time frame. ‘In the 2013-2014 season. Sometime in the winter, maybe the fall, you just don’t know,’ he said of when that first appearance might come. […] The anxiety from last summer’s trades, at least for now, is finished. ‘It wasn’t difficult at all. I didn’t feel anything,’ Rondo said of the franchise-altering trade that sent Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to Brooklyn, and coach Doc Rivers’ flight to the Clippers. ‘I actually landed in LA the night of the draft, and I got about 45 texts coming in a row. I thought I was traded. But I actually talked to Paul and Kevin on the phone. It’s part of the business. They’re not the first teammates I’ve been close to who have been traded away. There was Perk (Kendrick Perkins) and Tony Allen. It’s part of the process. This is a fresh start, a new coach and a new team. I’m excited. We have to get down to the court and compete. I’m a very competitive player and a very competitive person. I miss being out there with my teammates.’ They’ll hear him a lot, though, once training camp starts today at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I. ‘I’m going to help him, he’s going to help me, and he has my full support,’ said Rondo of (head coach Brad Stevens.) ‘Whatever he wants to do, whatever he wants to change, I have an open mind. I’ll be accountable to what he asks of me.'”
