USA Basketball Re-Elected Jerry Colangelo as Chairman

Jerry Colangelo will continue to rule over the USA Basketball machine, as he was re-elected as chairman for another four years. From USA Today: “Jerry Colangelo on Tuesday was re-elected chairman of USA Basketball’s board of directors for 2013 to 2016, a period which includes the 2014 men’s FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain and women’s World Cup in Turkey and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. […] ‘I’m excited to again serve USA Basketball as chairman for the next four years,’ Colangelo in a statement. ‘I’m proud of the many successes USA Basketball’s coaches and players achieved over the past four years, and I’m looking forward to helping keep that momentum going. We were not only successful in competitions, but in the manner in which everyone associated with USA Basketball represented our country on and away from the court. We focused on showing the utmost respect for the competitions and for our international opponents.’ […] Now, Colangelo and his staff can focus attention on the burning question: Who will coach the U.S. men’s national team? Krzyzewski said the gold-medal game in London was his final game as coach, though Colangelo wants to keep the Duke coach involved in some capacity. There is no official short list, but Philadelphia 76ers coach Doug Collins, Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Michigan State coach Tom Izzo are hot names. Monday, Colangelo told said there is no hurry to name a coach. ‘Nothing is being done in the area of what you like to keep abreast of,’ Colangelo said. ‘There isn’t anything to tell you. I told you it was going to be slow behind the throttle on this one because there was no reason to jump. I wanted a little bit of time to go by.'”
