Dwight Howard Supporting the Children of Haiti

With the heightened pressure of the Playoffs generating so much attention, it’s always important to remember what really matters. Check the press release we just received.

ORLANDO, FL., May 5, 2010 – Dwight Howard, 2009 and 2010 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and 4-time winner of the Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award, recently launched his Dwight Howard Fund (DHF) with the mission to help at-risk youths in Haiti at Adonal Foyle’s Gala for the Kerosene Lamp Foundation (KLF) in Orlando, Florida.

After making an initial personal investment of $100,000 to directly help at-risk Haitian children affected most by January’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, Howard called upon fans to join him in the cause. All fans who donate a minimum of $2.99 to the Dwight Howard Fund for Haiti are entered into a drawing to win a $500 shopping spree with “Superman” himself. He will also be giving the same prize out to the person who recruits the most number of people to donate.

Donations to the Dwight Howard Fund for Haiti can be made through www.pinkdingo.com/dhf or www.dwighthowardfund.org. More than 310 fans across the United States have already stepped up to support Dwight’s cause. With one week to go in the challenge, Dwight Howard is asking fans to join him in donating to the cause and emphasizing that May 13, 2010 is the deadline for donations in order to win the chance of shopping with him.

“It’s easy to donate and every dollar you give makes a big difference for the kids in Haiti,” said Dwight Howard. “We only have one more week in the challenge and I’m really counting on my fans to step up and help me do a lot of good for these kids in Haiti who got hit by the earthquake. If everybody donates $3 each, I’m sure we can break a record! Plus every time you give or recruit someone else to give, you’ll have a better chance of winning some quality time with me while we pick out some fresh Adidas gear!”

The on-line campaign launched on April 13 and has given fans the chance to donate and enter for a chance to win through May 13. Dwight Howard’s Challenge for the Children of Haiti is being managed by KLF and all donations are tax-deductible. Learn more about the Dwight Howard Fund at www.dwighthoward.org.
