The Post Up: Magical Victory

No shot clock, no problem. Orlando has Superman (and Shard).

by Holly MacKenzie / @stackmack

And we’ve got ourselves a series. I’m a happy, happy girl. Two nights in a row of amazing playoff basketball and I just know the Lakers/Nuggets won’t disappoint me tonight.

Happy to hear JR’s knee/calf/etc. is doing okay and he should be good to go tonight.

Now, Hello Orlando Magic. How lovely of you to remind everyone that no one is entirely invincable. Even if the Cavs get the next three, I’m glad SVG and his crew got a game. I love that he told them they were all witnesses at the half. Loved LeBron’s assessment of this postgame, even more: “Uh, that’s called reverse psychology.” And you, LeBron, are entertaining.

Scary to see him hunched over after the game though. Apparently he’s okay, just a leg cramp.

Can we not talk about how tired he was? Or how maybe he had too much rest? Let’s just accept the loss as a loss and give the Magic some credit for coming back and grinding out the one-point victory.

I’m hoping the rest of the games in this series are as competitive. I’m also thinking that might be too much to ask for.

Dwight taking down the shot clock was just perfect. Anything that gives an opportunity to look back at the old clips of Shaq doing it first is a good thing. I loved that they had to go old school with the shot clocks on the floor. Yeah, I know, probably annoying for the fans, but the 10-minute delay cracked me up and reminded me of the New Orleans game last year when they had the stunt that went wrong with the fire extinguisher. Remember that?

One more thing about twitter: Watching the NBA playoffs while other NBA players who have been eliminated are also watching and tweeting along is pretty fun. It’s a little crazy how we are all so connected in this world through media and I am just loving it. If you were wondering, Charlie Bell and his wife are my new favorite NBA couple. They are hilarious. The best was when she asked him if he’d get her lips tattooed on his neck ala Kenyon and Trina.

Okay, so Orlando takes the 1-0 series Lead. LA is up 1-0 on the Nuggets and they play Game 2 tonight.

Kobe went for a quiet 40 Tuesday night so it was only natural that LeBron would flirt with 50 last night, right? 49 for Bron but the W for Superman.

I love watching NBA stars becoming even bigger stars under the pressure of the playoffs. I loved hearing SVG say he had no idea what to do with LeBron. I also really, really love Delonte. Not so much a fan of Doug Collins announcing Cavs games though. It’s just a little (or a lot), over the top. And when I’M calling someone’s NBA love over the top, well then you know it’s serious.

Okay guys, I’m off to enjoy Game 2 day. Counting down the hours until tonight.

  • http://slam warr

todays post are so boring everyone must be lebron lovers.. who is to blame for the lack of movement on offense by the cavs?

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

What up moose lol. Teddy the bear, that is one. Your statement is false now. hey moose, how is the dribbling coming?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

Thought you’d never remember. It’s coming a helluva lot better, and my midrange game is off the heezy now. I’m a little Paul Pierce at the moment, haha. Well, not THAT good, but I play like him at least.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Man, common now. That is good. But PP is kind of my enemy so I will pretend like you never mentioned that lol. Teddy, I asked, how is your sister’s limp?

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

I’m glad all the remaining teams in the playoffs are going at it like they are. The worst is when you have one team that has a cakewalk versus another squad who has been through hell.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

Nah I was saying that I’m not as good as PP. I’m closing in on 5-10 now though, so that’ll help out more hah.

  • http://slamonline.com James The Balla

Thanks. Going out to do just that right now…

  • breeze

    what city?

  • bill breedley

Eric – to each his own. respect your perception of great, but in my book superstar with no ring = not a great player when it’s all said and done.

watching classic nba so many “greats” with no rings. match these greats against their contemporaries like the logo, russ, kareem, magic, bird, and the like and for some reason they just ain’t as great as you first thought.

  • breeze

LEBRON SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE LAST SHOT THATS WHAT ..BIG TIME PLAYERS DO

  • Michaelbchnn

I really believe Orlando can win this series. The matchups are just great. The Cavs are a damn good defensive team, and one of their strenghts is defending the three. The problem they have is that Orlando’s two best three point shooters are both 6’10 guys one who can post up the smaller guys the cav’s have and the other who handles the ball like a pg.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

    Lebrick Shames!

  • bill breedley

the cramp drama in the end made me wet my pants. that was down right silly pathetic. man up and don’t be a wuss. love how BSPN zooms on the baby cut and wastes airtime showing lebron whince bec of the “cramps”. lame lame lame

  • bill breedley

Michaelbchnn – if they had a better coach Magic would be a lock this year. I think only a healthy Boston matches well man for man with the lineup of Howard, Hedo and Shard. Those boys got skills.

  • http://slam warr

jerry west he and elgin baylor the greatest losers in nba history

  • breeze

if hedo can play better this will not be a one point win….

  • Eric

Bill, who did Russ, kareem, Bird and Magic play with? They were not great by theirselves. Lebron in no way, shape or form has the talent around him that Bird or Magic had. The same can be said about your boy Duncan. He had major help also.

Wincing from cramps makes someone a wuss? Bill you are funny.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

out in the streets they call it MUUUUURRRDDEEEERRR!!!!!

  • http://slam warr

eric i got a better one for u look who were their coaches… Coach brown needs to coach juco basketball his offensive system is terrible

  • http://slamonline.com cb 34

Bill: You’re stupid for thinking that lebron is a wuss because dude cramped up. The man was doing everything tonight but his teammates were just off. Apart from the 3 free throws he missed in the 4th, he hardly did anything wrong. Bron bashers would say that prison break west shouldn’t have had the last shot but it was the right play. They’ve been running that play for a while now. When west hit that 3 last year against the wiz nobody was complaining. Bron lost tonight but he’s still getting the chip this year. That’s that. Deal with it.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

cb 34, I am not a Lebron basher, but Lebron should have taken the last shot, he was hitting all night, his jay looked wet every time he shot and on the biggest play you drive looking to jump into someone for and 1, couldn’t pass to delonte west, when you have been shooting lights out 20-30. Come on. I feel he should have shot with no time left on the clock to win the game. Hes a superstar, so do it. Also Lebron was acting wimpy at the end of the game, he didn’t act hurt on that jump ball, where the ref let him stand with both feet behind line to win toss. Then they lose and he can’t walk-FUNNY, if Mo would have hit that shot he would have ran to Mo and picked him up, everyone knows this. but these new Lebron fans, will say no. COME ON!!.

  • http://sportzin.com Joey E.

lol it was funny listening to a reporter after the game. “LeBron had cramps and was bleeding” hmmmmm

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s35kBpvxfsc&feature=related James the balla

    hahaha

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

cb34: The Seed is actually a very well known Lebron basher. Just telling you.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

WHERE ARE ALL THOSE HATERS WHO SAID SHARD WASNT WORTH THAT CONTRACT???? HE HIT CLUTCH SHOT AFTER CLUTCH SHOT.

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

@ James: when did the Lakers become underdogs??
@ Albert Barr: i did watch the game and i’ve watched enough Magic games to realize that they’re team consists of a) Dwight dunking or b) anyone else shooting threes. to me, watching this over and over is definetly BORING
@Dark: they do exactly what the raptors do, substitute dwight dunking for occasional Cb4 postups.
and one of the major complaints of raptors fans, atleast urban raptors fans, is that they dont have any, or have very few black players

    Happy Burfday Holly!!

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

I thought the “Black Raptors” line was funny

  • AlbertBarr

@MeloMan: Yes, the magic strategy is Dwight dunkin or threes but they dont do it just “standing around”… this is what I took complaint at…last night they were moving the ball quite well and they had active guys all over the court.

  • AlbertBarr

Perhaps “standing around at the three-point line WHEN they are ready to catch and shoot” is a more appropriate description of their offense.

  • AlbertBarr

Now the cavaliers…they stand around…and watch LeBron.

  • AlbertBarr

Which is fun to watch, I admit…

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

yea, but its just one or two dribbles, pull-up or dish to an open three. sounds alot like their canadian counterparts to me

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan13

and i agree with u, the Cavs are pretty much the same thing, which makes this one boring series…inless every game is decided by two points

  • AlbertBarr

Im so glad it turned into a game last night…when the cavs got up like 14-2 or whatev I was not excited. Hopefully we will have a third awesome night of basketball in a row…Go Nuggs! (yet I still want a close game).

The question of who is better NOW between kobe and lebron was answered when lebron won the MVP and his 0dominance and numbers don’t lie and can’t be argued with, lebron will smash almost every statistical record in the game but… one can’t help but wonder, if it were kobe’s team down by one, on his way to 50 points, shooting close to 70% from the field, ball in hand during the closing seconds… we all know what kobe would do in this situation, we saw it the other night, he’s either gonna shoot, miss and they lose or he makes it and they win, or gets to the line and they win, no argument… bron said it best in the press conference… his stats don’t matter unless they get the win… lets bring mj to the table… sure he passed to the ball to his team mates in crucial situations to paxon and kerr… but not the last shot on the biggest stage… as we saw over the last 2 nights, the reason basketball is so exciting to watch is coz 2 teams can go at it as hard as they want for 48 minutes but the game can be won or lost in final minutes or closing seconds this game being the latter. I know bron’s always been an unselfish player, but if you look at his size, his strength, his quickness, his hops and his shooting range, the MVP of the league… he’s already scored 49 only missed 10 shots… i don’t think anyone in the world would of considered it selfish for him to shoot that one, i personally was disappointed and dumb founded that he didn’t… even if the pass was the correct play, i didn’t watch the game to ‘witnees’ mo williams.

Retard Lewis looks like a skinnier Kendrick Perkins.

  • Tuomas

I wasn’t able to catch the game, but I did see a photo of Varejao lying on the floor, grabbing his throat. I just hope it ACTUALLY hurt this time. You know, because he never fakes or anything.

  • George B

great games. its worth waking up at 4am. in this part of the world, one needs to wake up at 4am to watch an NBA game live.

  • larrylegend

anyone recognized how the cavs bench act when they were up by 15Pts.? that’s why they won’t win the chip; as great as lbj is, one man can’t do it alone.
