Links: The Dirty Thirty

And we have a new number one…

by Lang Whitaker

Let me begin by apologizing for not having a comment for each team (and being two days late). I’m writing this week’s Dirty Thirty from the road and internet access is a little spotty. I should have a post later tonight, however, that will make up for the lateness of the hour.

Whatever, here’s the new Dirty Thirty. As you might notice, we have a new number one team. And if Cleveland keeps this up we might get a new number two sooner or later. (And if Cleveland finishes the year with 60+ wins, will the New York press still believe that LeBron is going to leave for NYC?)

Also, each week I compile the Dirty Thirty without looking at the previous week’s rankings. Then, later, I go back and put in the previous week’s rankings. So I had no idea the bottom third of the teams were exactly the same as they were last week, but in a way that seems perfect. That’s why they’re there, after all.

Anyways…here it is. Have at it…

Cavs and Spurs too low, Pistons and Thunder too high.

  • Donn

Big Laker fan here but i would put the Lakers behind the Cavs…

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

How are the Jazz behind the Hawks,Mavs,Suns and Pistons exactly?

  • http://fjsdklf.com Jukai

I’d also like Izzo’s question to be answered

  • http://www.mybleedingfingertips.blogspot.com/ Myles Brown

I’d put the Heat in front of the Pistons too, but Im probably biased.

  • Fredo

Wait…is this Slam? Where’s my daily Starbury story? /jk.

  • Fredo

Maybe the Jazz should be higher. Other than that, no real issues. The Cavs being behind the Lakers isn’t so horrible to me.

damn detriot is slipping. i agree clevland in second for their winning streak, and the competition the lost to. I would also like to note that Orlando is high for team I thought would end up 3rd in the Eastern conference.
also wtih injury coach pop, carlisie have managed to make something serious coach of the year consideration

  • http://www.obviated.blogspot.com nick

Russ is right, OKC should be 31. UNC should be 30.

  • Rasheedionics

Despite their record or any reason or logic, I think “insert your favorite team here” should be #1… There, I just saved about thousands posts.

  • jrp14

I would actually have to put okc at 32, with gonzaga following unc at 31….they just have coaching and depth okc doesn’t

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

    jrp14:And probably more pros.

  • noahtheboa

jazz are too low and pheonix too high

Really pissed you moved Milwaukee from 21 to 18. Ridiculous.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

I just wrote up a huge list of teams that should be ahead of the Thunder and it got eaten. I hate WordPress with every fiber of my being.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

It was really good, too. It encompassed everyone from the Long Beach Stingrays to Carver High. And look at that, I was so irate I even used the “T” word.

  • http://www.mybleedingfingertips.blogspot.com/ Myles Brown

All 29 NBA teams, Half of the D League, The entire Euroleague, Seattle Mariners, Colorado Avalanche, The Pin Pals and the Bad News Bears?

  • http://www.mybleedingfingertips.blogspot.com/ Myles Brown

The Little Rascals don’t have a basketball team do they?

  • Sparker

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

I put Sidney Deane and Billy Hoyle ahead of them.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

Don’t forget SlamBall, the MAAC, the ABL, and the CBA.

  • http://twentythreenine.blogspot.com Russ Bengtson

    And the PSAL. Lincoln Railsplitters!

  • scott

How is Orlando ahead of New Orleans, San Antonio and Utah?

  • scott

@Russ…Would you put Word of God Christian Academy ahead of the might Thunder?

  • http://fjsdklf.com Jukai

    Free Kevin Durant?

  • scott

Orlando, Denver and Portland too high. New Orleans, San Antonio and Utah too low.

  • scott

Seriously Durant averaged something like 24 and 8 in the month of December.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Ryan Jones

    Lists are bourgeois.

  • scott

    I meant in November.

  • bakers’ dozen

Nuggs should be above the Magic.

  • scott

We might get three teams with 65+ wins this year. Cleveland, Boston and LA Lakers. Amazing.

  • http://chugachugachugachuchu.blogspot.com/ BETCATS

why do i feel clean when i read this? Where the hell is the dirty?

  • ciolkstar

    I am the dirty!

  • ciolkstar

How the hell are the Spurs still behind Houston, the Magic and the Nuggets (who they abused recently)?! I think the Spurs have clearly improved by adding Mason and George Hill will contribute more and more down the road. I guess I’m not that surprised that SLAM doesn’t give them enough love.

  • Bostwik

    The Thunder are too high.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com H to the Izzo

    The Texas A&M International Dustdevils.

  • Anton

Big East: LeBron shifts the balance

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Cleveland should be second. And anyways . . . I cry every time I see the OKC Thunder’s record. Two wins . . . and TWENTY ONE losses. Jeez.

  • Harlem_World

Wait! Oklahoma have a team in the NBA???? Is this some kind of joke?

  • Anton

No wonder Gary Payton is so pissed off nowadays.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Al Harrington scored 39 points last night, shooting over 50% from the field. A changed man? Damn right.
Also, Tim Thomas dropped 26 points. The dude is back like he just came from torching the Lakers in Phoenix. This time, though, he’s doing it for more than a 5 minute stretch. Dude is nice.
    Just all-around fantastic play.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

“And if Cleveland finishes the year with 60+ wins, will the New York press still believe that LeBron is going to leave for NYC?”
And if NYC offers Lebron $100 million, will the Cleveland press still believe that LeBron is going to stay?

  • Quail

pistons would be at least 3rd if they didnt make the iverson trade.

  • http://fjsdklf.com Jukai

Why is everyone saying Tim Thomas is back? Did anyone realize that double T had 3, 4, 7, and 3 point totals the games before his 26? Dude ain’t back from anywhere.

  • Jacob

    cleveland should be 2nd

  • RoytheBoy

the dirty 30 without comments is like the Bobcats without J-rich. Pointless.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Kid Presto

Clevand can earn the second spot when they stop playing these scrub ass teams that they whoop every not. Let them play some teams about .500 and see what they do. I know I’m just a biased laker fan but really I want to see LBJ lead his team past this schedule that is coming up.

  • Michael

hey its the dirty thirty! no wait its a list of teams in some sort of order. Thrilling.

  • FLUD

The Dirty Scam…. It’s rubbish without the comments Lang. Rubbish!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/hemantsbeats what

The Bobcats are not pointless without J-Rich, he is a 2-guard. They still have Felton and Augustin.

  • Ken

  • TDP

As a Pistons fan, I’m saddened to say Detroit doesn’t belong in the top-half of the league right now…

  • ab_40

San Antonio and Utah still scare me more then cleveland, they’re no.5 on my list a tie with houston but that’s for the whole season. Boston is tops and LA is seccond. And people ray allen is healthy and paul pierce is in the best shape of his live… If I am the spurs or the lakers (who’ll meet in the confrence finals) I’d be making defensive shemes already

  • Teddy-the-Bear

@ Jukai: Read what I said. I said he’s back like when he was on the Suns and torched the Lakers. Did he play consistently good with the Suns? No. Did he get hot during a few games? Certainly. The dude can play well when he tries.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Also, the Bucks at 18? That makes me laugh.

  • http://karanmadhok.blogspot.com azad

i think its really funny that the t-wolves and the bobcats are now perpetually referenced to as L-wolves and BETcats in these pages, and it never seems out of place anymore!

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Should the Spurs have jumped 8 places in one week…? That just seems a little…excessive, your not giving them room to expand effectively within your scaling system…(IMO).
AND BY DEFENSIVE SCHEMES ab_40 means “hack a shaq” and “nash thumping”?

  • dan

The thing is u could say that about cleveland but wen it comes down to it LA is a better team. they jus been playin whack the last few games.

n remember clevelands little streak they been on.. only like 2 of tha games are vs over .500 teams…. soo….

  • http://www.reviewedroulettesystems.com CozyDyettetry

Sweet blog. I never know what I am going to come across next. I think you should do more posting as you have some pretty intelligent stuff to say.

    I’ll be watching you . :)
