Nation’s Leading Shot-Blocker To Walk On

Is Jarvis Varnado’s decision to give up his scholarship a way to circumvent NCAA rules or a selfless, classy act? Well, it’s neither: “Jarvis Varnado and his family have agreed to pay their own way for the Bulldog center to attend school at State this year, Varnado’s father, Winston, said today. ‘We had discussed it with coach (Rick) Stansbury and he let us know that if Jarvis put his name in the draft, and he had a chance to get Renardo Sidney, we’ll take out a loan so he can come back to school,’ Winston Varnado, the coach at West Point High School, said.”

Oh wait read it more carefully….forget about my first comment.

First glance looked like they were paying for the hell of it.

Basically they can only offer 13 scholarships for the 14 players on the team. And this Jarvis is willing to be the oddman out and pay for his own.

That’s what I thought too Moose. I was thinking why would you do that if offered a scholarship. Redonculous. lol

Apparently Vernado’s getting ‘academic aid.’ The yearly tuition’s something like $5,000, which is a major bargain anyway.

Maybe they are taking out a “loan” from Sidney’s booster….just kidding. I like Varnado, I’m going with selfless.

It’s like he’s paying to go to jail.

I still don’t get it. So was he going to lose his scholarship anyway? or is he giving it up so they can get Renardo Sidney?

I should have went to school in Mississippi, 5K for tuition? He’ll pay that back with his first NBA check.

@that dude…nah, he wasn’t gonna lose his scholarship. He really just “took one for the team”. By staying at Miss State, he’s setting Sidney up for a MONSTER freshman year (since he’s not gonna have to play defense at all)

Now thats a team playa!!!! I look at it like this, he gets a player in(Sidney)that will help his club and gain more exposure to himself. Then, on top of it, he gets the money back (da loan) when he makes the league…just off of a great and smart move….gotta love it!
