Butler Extends Brad Stevens Through ’21-22

You read it right. Stevens, who coached Butler to its first Final Four (or Elite Eight, for that matter), will be locked-up in Indy for 12 more seasons: “Stevens, 33, who took Butler on a surprising run to the NCAA championship game, was awarded a new 12-year contract by the university Thursday. Terms of the contract, which extends through the 2021-22 seasons, were not divulged. It is widely speculated that Stevens’ total package is at least $1 million annually. The Board of Trustees was discussing that amount, perhaps even before Butler reached the Final Four. Stevens’ base salary two years ago was $395,000, and the total package has been estimated at $750,000.”

Should be a lifetime contract…He’s got a computer in his head or something.

Odd. He has a really bright future, why would he lock it down for 12 years at $1 M? He might be worth $4-5 M by then… He is going to be an NBA coach some day. I like his poise and how he refrains from ‘over-coaching’ every single trip down the floor. I hate coaches who yell out instructions like maniacs to their point guards as soon as they cross halfcourt.

He won’t be there long if he has another season like his last one. Show him the MONEY!

He will never be there that long, some big name program (Seton Hall, St. Johns?) will come knocking with a great opportunity. Congrats coach!

Wow. 12 years is a long time.

Had to read the headline a couple times. Good decision though.

Give a coach full reign over a program is a solid move. Allows him to guarantee to recruits parents that he’s not jumping ship like many of the other coaches on the carousal.

Man, I’m only 16 and I can remember when 2011 seemed far away (graduation year). Now it’s staring me right in the face. 2022? That seems like a time when we would have flying cars and jetpacks and other flying media. About Stevens? Good coach. My main beef with mid-majors giving their coaches long contracts (there was some other team like this) expect the same success every year from then on, then are shocked when they go 6-6 in the Dance in the next 10 years. Then the coach is in the wrong somehow. Give him a break! It’s fickle. I wish Butler the best of luck, and hope to see them dance for a long time next year.

He will still only be in his mid-forties when the contract is up so he would still have alot of coaching left

Gotta back T-Money’s claim. Coach Stevens going to be good in the next two or three years, and he may very well hear his name called up as an NBA coach. Should have agreed on a shorter term, like 3 to 4 years worth $1 mil annually.
