Duke Misspells Recruit’s Name So He Signs With UNC

Saw that Duke lost on a great player on The Big Lead and traced it back to the News and Record: “P.J. Hairston said he seriously considered committing to Florida, Georgetown, Wake Forest and ‘I hope people don’t hate me when I say this, but Duke’ before signing with North Carolina… A recurring mistake helped him decide. ‘The thing about Duke was, every time they sent me a letter, they wouldn’t spell my name right,’ Hairston said. ‘They would have T.J. Harrison or something like that. And I’m like, OK. How can I go here? You can’t even spell my name right. It’s only two letters and HAIR and STON. I’m trying to figure out how that’s so hard.’”

    Now first of all, how in the hell could they mispell Hairston when they have a kid named Hairston on their roster right now!!!
    Secondly, you would think a coach named Krzyzewski who had recruited kids with names like Wojciechowski and Melchionni would know how to spell “Hairston”.
    I bet they never once mispelled “Plumlee” though…

    I’m not a huge Duke fan but I doubt they were trying to disrespect the young man. If letters were reaching him with the SAME misspelling it only proves that they send out computer generated recruiting letters instead of doing what they and other schools say they do (the personal touch letters) If the spelling was different every other time then the intern(s) who …NEVER mind who cares…
