Derrick Rose Lands Potential $200M Shoe Deal

Looks like DRose is flirting with another Michael Jordan record. NBC’s Darren Rovell reports that the deal is the second biggest in shoe history, right behind MJ’s partnership with Nike. Rose’s new adidas deal will guarantee him $185 million over 13 years, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. Hitting incentives pushes it over $200 million: “Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose has secured one of the richest shoe endorsement deals in history, a package that could pay him more than $200 million across the remainder of his career, a source told Yahoo! Sports. Rose, the 2011 NBA Most Valuable Player, agreed to a 13-year deal to stay with Adidas that guarantees him $185 million. The deal includes incentives that could push the deal to more than $200 million, a source said. Rose signed the deal on Friday in Orlando, Fla., where he will play in Sunday’s NBA All-Star game as a starter for the Eastern Conference.”

  • ttc

yes..as the rich get richer, the poor gets poorer..a trend that’s unlikely to slow down..witness the slow death of the middle class..PEACE

    Happy for Drose.

  • Aizen

@ttc: Stupid liberal, D-Rose earned that money, he didn’t steal it.

  • LA Huey

“as the rich get richer, the poor gets poorer..a trend that’s unlikely to slow down..witness the slow death of the middle class” Because Derrick Rose is getting that money by exposing loopholes in the tax code, hiding and generating it in offshore tax havens, lobbying politicians through pork barrel projects and ear marks, etc. Whatever. This kid just plays ball and his performance nets him a share of the money he’s generating.

  • ttc

chill guys, i wasn’t dissing him, i’d take that money too..just sayin, if u look around the world in most rich countries the gap between rich & poor is getting bigger..he obviously isn’t to blame, in fact i’m sure he’ll do a lot for poor people with that money..i’m just sayin’ look at the lower classes and middle ones, their income are getting lower and lower, while people at the top are getting more and more money.

  • ttc

not sayin they don’t earn it, i’m sure they work hard for it..but the people at the bottom work hard too, yet their jobs are being taken away from them..by the way i hav no hatred for the rich or even the system, just an observation..last but not least, i don’t believe u can “earn” $200 million, no matter what u do i think that’s way too much..and again no hatred on my part, happy for drose..in fact, i hope if i work hard enuff (& be lucky), one day i’ll get that kind of money..PEACE..

D-ROSE i would of went with nike.., but i cant knock u signing with addais for 200 mill! thats great $$$…, but there shoes suck for basketball stlye and appeal, nike all day.!

  • Soulquarian

“last but not least, i don’t believe u can “earn” $200 million, no matter what u do i think that’s way too much” <<<<<< This is the same argument people made during the Lockout…that players made "too much." The problem with this argument is that for Adidas to pay Rose $200 million, they would be making much more than $200 million. So if you believe Rose is not "earning" $200 million, then it follows that you think Adidas is somehow rightfully making the hundreds of millions by using Rose's name and likeness on their products. How is that earned? Too often, it is the athletes who are seen as the ones making all the money when there are much, much richer people sitting in the shadows.

Thats the business d-rose is in an it is basket ball its a business!, dont hate cause hes getting paid like this..!, this IS what happens when your a great Bball Player or have a buzz in the nba, u get these kind of rewards!..when ur on top ur on top! STAY ON TOP WHAT U DO.

ttc is right about the middle class vanishing. It’s funny how everyone jumps down his throat even though he’s right. Although, income inequality has more to do with the capitalist “free market” delusion than it does with Derrick Rose… Who happens to be a small (but visible) cog in a massive wheel.

  • ttc

never wanted to blame Drose; happy for the kid..he and his family will obviously be on the better side for a long time..my advise is get as much money as possible so u can get join ‘em..in about 30 to 40yrs time there will just be the super rich and the poor..slavery might even be back in full effect..

    ^^^^
    Nice story, but I don’t give a f*ck

in my opinion the vanishing middle class has more to do with the disapearance of a sound monetary policy. the dollar has lost close to 98 percent of its value over the last 100 hundred years. we also havent been close to a true free market since the industrial revolution. which amazingly was the time where the greatest movemnt of poor to middle class and middle class to rich. also during that time the the population increased significantly meaning there was a raise in standard of living for everyone.

Worth every cent, Addidas will get this back in Chiba alone

Love me some drose but I live in CHI and I have never EVER seen anybody with them on. Exaggerating only a little bit. On my mother I saw a kid today with the 2.5 and a guy in line when the iphone 4s dropped in october. I would appreciate if Adidas gave him a logo like the rose or something.

  • Bx Baller

Adidas gave the exact same deal to Tmac exactly 10 years ago. I hope thier careers don’t end up the same. Rose’s back is starting to act up just like Mac’s did and that’s not a good sign.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Red

It isn’t the same back problem actually.

  • https://twitter.com/BeezKneezy LA Huey

D-Rose won’t have the same issues as T-Mac because McGrady’s problems were related to a lack of work ethic. Rose is a huge gym rat.

  • jake

    Ttc with the buzzkill!

  • dannyb

    Can I borrow some money?

  • rand33p

Next to Kobe, Rose is the most popular basketball player in China. Coupled with his obvious star power in North America AND you get THAT!.

  • kh

    oh my

  • charliewinning

I’m happy for DRose and I co-sign ttc and Teddy.

  • charliewinning

Also, we don’t really know how his shoes sell globally so we can’t assume that nobody is buying them just because we don’t see them in U.S neighborhoods and courts. He did say that adidas does a great global marketing job with him.

All I can say is wow!!!!

Whoever had the comment on monetary policy was right. When you can debase the currency and people don’t know it inflation acts as a hidden tax. Most rich people get rich (not all) by creating wealth. The people to blame are in bed with the government. Read up on economics to truly understand things. They are rarely as they seem. Good for Drose. And whoever said he can’t earn enough, Adidas disagrees, and they are huge and they have lots of smart people and THEY are putting their money on the line. Will it make them money? Maybe not, but that is the beauty of risk.
