Nerlens Noel Set to Sign With Reebok

Rookie center Nerlens Noel has tentatively agreed to an endorsement deal with Reebok, according to sources within the company.

The confirmation comes hours after Noel, best known for his dynamic shot-blocking skills and flat top haircut, was spotted at a photo shoot for the Reebok Q96 and Pumspective in Los Angeles.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the Canton, MA, based company has not issued an official statement. When reached on the phone earlier today, however, Noel confirmed that he has aligned himself with Reebok.

“I don’t think I’m just a prototypical big man,” Noel said when reached on the phone at the shoot. “I think I’ll be able to sell shoes.”

Noel, who was projected by many to be the top selection in the 2013 NBA Draft, went No. 6 to the New Orleans Pelicans, before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Jrue Holiday. A McDonald’s All-American in 2012, Noel averaged 10.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.4 blocks and 2.1 steals per game in 24 games as a freshman at Kentucky, where he also picked up SEC Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-America honors.

He joins a Reebok Basketball team that includes Brooklyn Nets guard Jason Terry, Sacramento Kings guard Isaiah Thomas and Orlando Magic guard Jameer Nelson.

“Growing up, I liked a lot of old school shows like Fresh Prince and Martin,” Noel said. ”And what they (Reebok) really want to do is bring it back to retro—like, I have a flat top. So going retro, with not only the shoe but even off-court style.”

Reebok’s signing of Noel is apparently just the beginning of a Reebok Basketball reboot. According to a source, the company is expected to announce an expanded roster of NBA talent in the coming weeks. They’re also expected to roll out a revamped line of sneakers.

Earlier this year, amid rumors of Reebok exiting  performance basketball, the company assured us they’d be back with new athletes and a new approach.

Grabbing Nerlens is a good start.

Alright ya’ll… Who am I forgetting and who am I completely bunk about???

  • NickDePaula

    Love it.

    No KG???

  • shockexchange

What is this … a group of NBA players in random order?

  • Loso

that would be awesome, Chandler is one of the best defensive bigs in the league. Considering we only traded an overachieving PG with inflated stats due to circumstances ( love Jrue btw ) to get Noels + a pick which most likely will be in the later lottery of next years stacked draft, I say we got a steal.

Thought it was Lakeshow’s Top 50. I disagree with the order, but feel like KG should DEF be on this list.

  • KingBenjamin

The top 50 NBA players in LakeShow’s opinion, no way Asik is a top 50 NBA player though.

  • shockexchange

Okay. SE thought it was a version of “Wheel of Fortune” where you take a random group of NBA players in put them in some type of order based on height, weight, or passport entries or something.

  • LakeShow

I did have him on there and then replaced him with someone, then forgot to add him back in! (you know how ranking things numerically can get hard when you mess up once haha)

    My bad.

I’d have him right around the #30-35 area.

  • LakeShow

Yeah Asik won’t put up the #’s but I feel he would be a top 50 guy if he was starting for a team.

  • LakeShow

    Let me guess yours…

    #1 Shock
    #2 Robert Horry’s son
    #3 Lola Filonio
    #4 Terrell Skuggs
    #5 Isaac Hayes

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    hellllllll no he won’t.

  • shockexchange

    That’s darn close Lake.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah i will watch. he will play half of the season AT BEST. no way he gets ROY

  • LakeShow

    Meh… I think so.

He is entering his prime as a big man and he could grab 12 boards and 2 blocks a game if he was starting for most teams. I think that’s right around the #50 marker.

  • shockexchange

Based on your analyses, Horry Jr read more books over the summer than everyone except for 4 players. However, based on “quality” of books read, the Shock Exchange would rank Horry Jr #1 > http://clicky.me/7aZp

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

look at my list, http://scribbless.com/lists/list/169446, you think he’s better than David Lee / Al Jefferson? Really?

  • LakeShow

    David Lee, no, probably not.

    Al Jefferson… yeah… probably.

I really hate the fact it takes Jefferson 16 shots to get 18 points… Like really hate it lol. And his defense… well you know.

I’m probably wrong with Asik there, but I ain’t upset about it. He could/would be a top 50 player imo. But yeah probably should gotten Lee in there.

  • LakeShow

I purposely never go to your “clicky.me’s” cause I don’t want to support tom foolery.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it’s really just opinion. i’m not going to chastise you for being crazy ;P

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

so do you think Kobe Bryant is cool with you using him to market your book? seems like you just committed a crime too me. but hey, do you man.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i doubt he had permission to lie about Kobe on his website to try and sell more books like that.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you forgot Steph Curry man. come on.

  • LakeShow

    I didn’t.. Well I did. I don’t know what happened to him.

I had him pretty high but lowered him a bit and some how he disappeared completely . Did that with Dirk at first too.

Let me see if I can edit him in.

Hey mine was a toss out. I just did it in a SLAM comment box haha.

  • LakeShow

I didn’t go to the web page for fear of it getting support out of one more page hit.

    What did it say??

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

“Since, Kobe has decided to stop tweeting and pick up a good book Rumor has it that he’s reading the critically acclaimed Shock Exchange: How Inner-City Kids From Brooklyn Predicted the Great Recession and the Pain Ahead. “Shock Exchange” chronicles the travails of a travel basketball team and financial literacy program as they learn investment management skills and competitive basketball skills. Library Journalcalled the book “Innovative … an intriguing work,” while Midwest Book Review described Shock Exchange as “Enticing … a must have.” Kobe has been using Shock Exchange as a primer on how to invest his fortune and an inspiration to return to the court at his best. Where you can buy Shock Exchange:”

  • LakeShow

hehe, these list’s open a can of worms.

It’s really hard to get everything exactly how you want it.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that’s why mine is ever evolving. i ran questions through people on twitter and all sorts of stuff.

  • LakeShow

    WOW… f*king wow…

I could never deduce myself to lying like that, but HEY, like you said, do you…

  • LakeShow

    I knew you would.

I’m the kid that finishes the test before everyone else with a C+ and is completely satisfied with twiddling my thumbs waiting for everyone to double check their work lol.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well yeah, i’m like that with stuff i don’t care about too lol

  • danpowers

deng not in your top 53? come on… should be clearly in

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah, i have absolutely no respect for anything Shock does at this point. before i at least thought it was a positive what he was doing with his book. but this is just not something i can respect.

  • LakeShow

I thought about him… and chose to leave him off. He’s been on the decline. (Less than 43% fg’s last two seasons, and didn’t shoot the long ball to effectively last season either)

Let’s see if he redeems himself.

I could eat crow for this if he gets back to his old self with top defense and 46+% FG’s and 36=% 3 pt fg’s. 17 points on 15 fg’s isn’t top 50 to me, but he is a very good player and could prove me wrong.

  • danpowers

you should strongly expect him to do so this coming season.

or could his wrist injury haunt him into next season? do you know anything about it? just read that he refused to have surgery

  • LakeShow

    It very well could.

I mean so could Rose, and Bryant, and Westbrook, but I have more faith in the superstars to have the attention on them by the medical staff’s and their own will, to come back at 100%.

Like I said, I could eat crow on this one. It’s just undetermined right now and so I left him off figuring he might have another inefficient season.

  • CuriousMurious

are you an Lakeshow personal friends. Like have you have seen each other in live person? Or video chatting

  • curiousmuriou

do you know NBK as like you know his real identity.

  • LakeShow

    What? He’s not Batman dude…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Nah, all of the conversations we have ever had have been on SLAM why?

  • danpowers

    makes sense

  • shockexchange

^^ This coming from the guy who thinks Horry Jr is one of the top 5 players in the L. WTW?

  • LakeShow

Closer to accurate than where you would rank him.

  • LakeShow

lol, this dude asked me if I knew your “real identity” lol…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    That’s what you think

  • LakeShow

  • curiosmurious

it’s interesting. Are you two separate people. Or one person who write to himself.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I am as much him as I am you.

  • curiousmurious

how is it possible that two people can have this much dialogue without knowing each other?

Is it that you guys are one in the same person? I mean it’s baffling how the conversation flow

  • LakeShow

I really don’t understand what your trying to say. We just discuss basketball. We love a sport and talk about it most days of the week…

  • curiousmurious

    nbk, curious murious, lake show

guess how many ppl are typing?

  • curiousmurious

    wow that was quick -

  • shockexchange

He’s the #1 winner of his era Lake. The Shock Exchange is on record saying that.

  • pposse

Deng wrist been messdd up since kobe fingers were messed.

  • danpowers

i dont get then why he didnt get surgery yet

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

  • danpowers

i was reading it up and down n didnt feel well. there is one guy clearly deserving a honorable mention or even a spot in the list: faried!

  • danpowers

    1. James

    2. Durant

    3. Paul

    4. Westbrook

    5. Howard

    6. Wade (yes, even at 80%)

    7. Parker

    8. Rose (was still in a suit while smbdy else returned from the same injury to help his team reach the second round. when rose last played james didnt have a ring, howard was still on the magic and kidd was a maverick. lets hope the long absence doesnt mean he is too traumatized to find his mojo)

    9. Bryant

    10. Anthony

    11. Harden

    12. Aldridge

    13. George (could be the next big thing in the league if he finds out how to score more consistently)

    14. Curry

    15. Wall

    16. Williams

    17. Irving

    18. Nowitzki

    19. Duncan (once father time finally HAS TO strike, he cant do what he does forever damnit)

    20. Griffin

    21. Love (whenever he makes the playoffs ill be ready to consider him as the best 4 in the l. till then i wont believe in the great white hype)

    21. Noah

    22.+23. M. Gasol + P. Gasol

    24. Rondo

    25. Bosh (in terms of talent easily top 15, but output counts, too)

    26. Hibbert

    27. Rubio

    28. Horford

    29. Conley

    30. Lopez

    31. J Smith

    32. Cousins

    33. Randolph

    34. Iguadala

    35. Gordon

    44. Evans

    45. Ibaka

    46. Deng

    47. Batum

    48. D West

    49. Ginobili

    50. T Chandler

biggest snubs that hurt having them left out: leonard, jennings, ellis, gay, pekovic, faried, teague

guys who could be in in the last 10 spots or so but didnt hurt that much leaving out: a jefferson, parsons, j crawford, green, r anderson, k thompson, jr smith, derozan, gallinari, w chandler, vucevic. not to speak of some young guys who have all star potential but it is not clear wheather they will reach it and if so, when e.g. valanciunas

lese majesty: kg (and stat) – minutes restrictions and no back to backs. that dumps their overall output. pierce – is so good he belongs in the 50 talent wise but the nets hve the luxury to keep him fresh minutes wise so i assume his overall output might not be that high. same with ray allen. nash – just had a season with 12ppg and 6,7apg in 32mpg and is about to turn 40. so it would be a suprise if he will be one of the 50 best players this upcoming season.

  • Interdico Scriptor

    NO WAY

    ahahaha. Horry Jn his ass

  • Interdico Scriptor

WTF. Lake & nbk are NOTHING like each other. Not even close

  • Interdico Scriptor

  • JL

LOL. That was good for a laugh.

  • JL

I think his buying into Thibideau’s insistence of toughing out injuries is really hurting his performance. It’s getting ridiculous when he’s not doing surgery when anyone else would have, and instead he lets it linger. That all in a year when Rose was going to sit out all the way.

  • JL

WTH do you talk to yourself? I’m utterly confused when you question people able to have conversations.

  • Interdico Scriptor

Shock. I’ve said it before but yr English is appalling. Read what u write out loud before you print. Do u have an editor? do u wan’t one?

His first shoe should be called…”The First Noel” or simply “The First” OR we go like facebook…”First” whutwhut! X))

  • Ugh

How can I upvote this 50 times?

  • danpowers

could be one explanation. but his so called offensive “decline happened throughou the last year, maybe this will get better when rose returns… even though i doubt that rose has ever been at a level to make his teammates better. so far i thought its more the other way round and as talented and good as he is: he is very fortunate to play in chicago

  • JC

This list is made the Slam way right? so it’s based on expected performance next season?

I wouldn’t have Kobe and Dwade this high.

I would have James Harden in the top 10 or very close to it.

I don’t know about such a high ranking for Hibbert, he is obviously superb defensively but I feel like there a lot of really good denfensive centers right now. Question is if he can he sustain that offensive production he had against Miami?

I’m not much of a Blake fan, would rather have some of these defensive guys like Noah, Timmy and KG. Even mr. solid Al Horford.

Other that that it’s a good list I think. It’s always difficult when you get to the 30′s. Only thing I really have an issue with there is Vasquez. I would take most of your honourable mentions over him and Paul Milsap.

Also Rudy Gay, I’d take Deng or Parsons as my SF over him any day but maybe he will shine in Toronto.

  • shockexchange

These two are like BFFs. On this thread > ( http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2013/01/post-up-first-to-thirty/ ) they were talking about going camping.

  • pposse

probably the same reason kobe never got surgery on his hand/ fingers…the recovery timetable is too long and its something that they can technically still play ball with.

My guess is that he is factoring in risk reward. The surgery is risky, but the reward for getting it won’t all of a sudden make him the next coming of lebron james.

  • initbruv

Lol. But you gotta hand it to nbk, “Yuma is the only city on earth i would rather not be in than Tucson. Tucson is the earth’s asshole, Yuma is its chode” is pretty damn funny.

  • danpowers

why put him back? he is good but this list should be about output/performance. so far kid said kg will have minutes restrictions and wont play in back to backs. so it wouldnt be that wrong to leave him out – even though he will be an elite player for the time he steps on the court.

  • benjamin

How does all this relate to Nerlens Noel signing with Reebok?

  • The Seed

    Nice Job

  • The Seed

Reebok must be desperate. He didn’t even play in College. He probably will be a bust. Sign Wiggins after he signs an agent, then save the Reebok money for him.

Go ahead. Tear me to shreds.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    my main complaints….
    Paul George at #12?
Klay Thompson at 35? He’s above Andre Iguodala…on purpose?
Why is Goran Dragic on your list?

  • Caboose

    1. 21-7-5 (predicted) along with an All-Defensive First is #12 to me.
    2. I don’t think Iggy is going to factor into the GS offense at all. I’m kinda leery how his minutes will be distributed, especially with Barnes sitting on the bench.
    3. Goran Dragic…excellent question. Gonna change that ish right now.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well, Iguodala will get more minutes than Klay Thompson, that’s for sure. And aside from shooting, his role will be bigger in just about every way. You do realize Iguodala is the defacto backup point guard right? He’ll technically be the SF, but he will be the secondary ball handler. Jarrett Jack is in Cleveland now. It’s not like Toney Douglas or Seth Curry are realistic backup PG options.

  • LakeShow

I don’t ever watch ESPN except for a game. Ever.

    I hate ESPN.

Can you please show me your non-stinky list?

  • Caboose

    Uhh yeah, that’s illegal.

-Violation of the right of publicity
    -Potential written defamation
-Trademark infringement (against Nike, or any other company with whom Kobe Bryant holds a contract)
    -Misappropriation of name or likeness
-(Depending on content of book) Invasion of privacy by false light disclosure

    Pick one.

  • Caboose

    1. Durant
    2. LeBron
    3. Kobe
    4-50. ESPN didn’t tell me.

  • Caboose

That’s fair, I just saw what Klay and Curry did in the Playoffs; they were at their most successful when their offense worked from those 2 alone. Iggy I can see putting up what, 12-5-5? His rebounds are gonna go down near Lee and Bogut and his scoring will dip with him being the 4/5th option on his team. Klay could put up some ridiculously efficient shooting numbers at the 20ppg mark.

  • LakeShow

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i am seriously pissed off at how shady this is. @shockexchange:disqus is a real dirt bag. Basically.

  • Caboose

Shock, I know we’ve had our conversations before, and usually they’re great fun.

You have violated AT LEAST 4 different types of Personality Rights in the United States.

-Violation of the right of publicity
    -Potential written defamation
-Trademark infringement (against Nike, or any other company with whom Kobe Bryant holds a contract)
    -Misappropriation of name or likeness
-(Depending on content of book) Invasion of privacy by false light disclosure

If you want your website to avoid being sued/taken down/destroyed and then your entire life’s work taken from you, get rid of the Kobe Bryant “endorsement.”

  • Caboose

I thought this was based on projected performance?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i highly highly doubt Klay goes for more than 17PPG at the very most. he didn’t even put up his season average in the playoffs. And they didn’t have David Lee. Now they have Lee, and added Iguodala. I just don’t see that happening at all.
And Iguodala is a top 3 defensive wing, even if he scored 8-10 less PPG than Thompson, he’s probably still a better more effective player. Klay sure as sh*t isn’t going to get 5 rebounds or 5 assists. And he obviously won’t be guarding any elite 1st options.

  • shockexchange

Caboose, by tellin’ “What had happened” and “what you done seen or heard”, you’ve broken bout 500 codes of the Streets. Now go shove off.

  • Caboose

That’s fair, assuming Iggy can keep shutting down the very best, he should be higher. I don’t exactly see him shooting anywhere near as efficiently as Klay.
    Imagine this:
    12-5-4 on 45%FG, 31%3PT, 60%FT with stellar defense
    19-4-3 on 48%FG, 43%3PT, 85%FT with average defense

I just expect the Bomb Bros to take HUGE steps forward this season, especially with their confidence up from the Playoffs.

  • Caboose

Shock, don’t brush this off, this is me legitimately trying to help.

Did I call you shady? No. Did I call you a punk? No. Did I imply that you’re somehow a god awful person for violating a couple of laws? No.

I just don’t like seeing someone’s personal likeness, name, or image ripped off without their consent. And I especially don’t like people who flaunt it like they got away with it.

And, I’m a 21 year old, upper-middle class white guy going to school at Cal, I’m fairly certain the “Code of the Streets” (as Elijah Anderson calls it) does not apply to me.

Know what does apply to you though? Laws. So don’t come at me like I’m trying to break you down. I let nbk do that.

You and I both have PG at #12 and I think we both feel that is very deserving.

It’s funny how you and I went at it with Klay this last season and I was telling to you how great he was,and I didn’t put him in my top 50, but you did lol.

And it’s also funny because I was bragging about how good Parsons was, and couldn’t seem to get him in my top 50. Should have though. He’s better than Asik as far as production goes.

I think Dirk is low at #31. He could be as high as #12 this next season. Dirk at 20-8 on close 50% is a top 15 guy imo.

yeah, i’m not trying to get you to change it (ok, a little). i just want to know why you think that. and make sure you really thought it through.

  • Caboose

Uhh, I did the list in…15 minutes?

I’ll go through and do an edit now. I’ll put their original ranking in parentheses

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ehh no stress, here’s my updated list, http://scribbless.com/lists/list/169446

  • Caboose

I have no confidence in Dirk anymore. To me, time has really caught up to him, especially on the defensive end.

  • Caboose

Kyrie Irving that high…you must expect some huge leaps in defense then, huh?

  • LakeShow

It was hybrid. A mix of projected performance, with a couple guys making it based on ability.

He isn’t my most prized listed player lol. I think Klay, Parson’s, Lee, Faried will all be the better, more impacting players next season.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i expect him to be average on defense. And figure out how to win this year. Basically, Allen Iverson with a focus on efficiency instead of bulk production.

  • LakeShow

    Okay. Fair.

If he does 20-8 and plays average defense in 70+ games played next season, where do you rank him?

  • Caboose

About 3-6 spots below LaMarcus Aldridge, right?

  • Caboose

I doubt Kyrie is gonna put up 30-7…

  • Caboose

Haha yeah, Asik got the benefit of playing next to ZERO rebounders last season.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

“with a focus on efficiency instead of bulk production.”

  • Caboose

Haha fair enough. Ivy at least put up a load of steals though. Kyrie CAN get there, but not next year.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Iverson’s load of steals also came with a load of layups for the other teams and fouls on his big men. Kyrie is also a lot bigger than Iverson was, he should do a better job actually guarding the ball. And he will definitely do a better job keeping his teammates involved in the offense, even if his assist numbers don’t match up.

  • LakeShow

Yeah.. Yeah… probably. I just don’t want our mid to late 90′s superstars to decline lol.

  • shockexchange

Okay the “now go shove off” comment was a bit over the top. As far as running afoul of laws, SE will take his chances. Thank you for the public service announcement though.

  • Adam Webber

Really? What did I say that was stupid???Your the bozo who has Durant over LeBron, lmao, go watch soccer or something cuz bbal you don’t understand. To complex for you

  • Adam Webber

    Kobe Bryant
    James Harden
    Paul George
    Deron Williams
    Kyrie Irving
    Chris Paul
    Russel Westbrook/Steph Curry
That’s a top 10. Dwill after all star break was clearly plaing best bball in league. Paul never gets anywhere in playoffs. Vastly overrated. Whats cp3 vs dwill head to head record. Bettwe go check since I know dwill owns him
Didt rank D.Rose since simply no one knows how he is going come back

  • LakeShow

You forgot the next 40 bud.
