Links: The Puzzling Marvin Williams

Spin it right round…

by Lang Whitaker

Yo. So I spent all day yesterday out of the office working on a story for SLAM 129. Most of that time was spent driving to and from Boston. And I’m pretty sure I’m going to spend the next few days transcribing what has to be the longest (and possibly the best) interview I’ve ever done for SLAM. Yeah, it was that good.

In the meantime, here’s Marvin Williams solving a Rubik’s Cube really fast. I once claimed I solved a Rubik’s Cube, but actually I just took off all the stickers and moved them around.

Lang, please tell me it’s Steph! And I was wondering if you’ve seen the Lance Stephenson stuff on MTV Jams about Coney Island?

Marv is that dude. He’s still one of the coolest kids we’ve ever had do the diary. Brain works pretty well, too, apparently.

Thats pretty cool. Marvin definitely seems like a smart dude, I remember Chillz talking about how he and Marvin had a year long competitition on who could spend less of their per diem, which is a small thing but it reflects some real perspective on money and avoiding wastefulness.

If I had a dollar for every Rubiks Cube I’ve ever solved I’d have at least 85 cents.

I bet Michael Jordan can solve a Rubik’s Cube. Kobe can’t. Lebron can but only if given enough space.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

I bet Michael Jordan, even at 46, can still solve a rubik’s cube given enough time and a days rest inbetween doing it. Kobe still can’t. Lebron can, but he has no outside shot so he still sucks.

I bet youre never going to let this go.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO EMRY??!!!!!???

gil should make a rubiks cube that cant be solved and give it to different people.

  • chris g

Chris Paul would have solved it much quicker

I bet Shaq could not solve a Rubik’s cube but he could smash it into a million pieces with three fingers.

i remember in my sophomore year in highschool, we had to solve a rubiks cube for a physics assignment. there’s a formula for doing it… but i sucked at it, so one day i just got as far as i could and called it good. brought the 70% solved cube into my professor (why was a professor teaching high school physics?) and said, “look, this is as far as i can get.” and he gave me a C. i was fine with that. the sciences aren’t for me.

If I had a dollar for every Rubik’s Cube I’ve solved, I would have like $1000, and I have only been solving for about three months. And, my fastest is 59.84 seconds. But I know Marv is a smart dude.

The only mystery about Marvin Williams is why Lang was jocking the Hawks so hard to draft him 2nd overall. Don’t worry, you can continue to hold out hope that he’ll turn into a decent #3 option somewhere eventually. That way you can convince yourself it was the right move and never have to admit how wrong you were.

LilkDub503… If you’ve received a dollar for every girl you’ve spoken to, you’d probably have to borrow some money from your Rubik Cube fund to show something.

  • Ned Mahony

This time last year I taught myself how to do it. I got no idea how to ‘speedcube’ which is how they get like 20 seconds. I can do the layer way, same as Marv. And I’ve only ever timed once and I got around 2 minutes.

So this is what NBA players do when they are injured…

    Starvin Marvin. love this dude.
but this is why if you see a player who didnt start in college, dont draft him so high NBA teams.

  • Blinguo

You might think Josh Chill could finish the Rubik’s Cube in a faster time. Call him up through Skype and issue the match/beat Marv challenge Lang double!

Way to go for the original Ed Davis!

Wow, I’m wondering if it’s Steph – must be really interesting hear from him. Also wondering why you have to transcribe it yourself, Lang…

LOL! Marv only heard about a Rubik Cube 2 years ago!
