Video: Kobe With Another Game-Winner

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

It’s as though the man never left.

After taking five games off to rest his ankle (and other beaten down body parts), Kobe was back last night and doing what he does best: saving his team at crunch time (Bryant scored the Lakers’ final nine points in Memphis.)

Your boy Myles Brown said it best on Twitter, after Bryant delivered yet another round of late-game heroics: “Yawn.”

i don’t know why i would prefer him as MVP over James …

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Man, I thought Memphis had this.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Todd Spehr

Mayo misses two FT’s, Gay goes under the screen, Grizz not exactly helping themselves.

  • http://missjia.com meloMan2.0

why is it that Melo just hit a game winner against a better team, better player, with less tim on the clock, in arguably the game of the season… and SLAM can’t post that video…. but they can post kobe beating an average team with nearly 5 secs still on the clock?

  • Vuk

    a. memphis is not an average team
and b. kobe did it comming off an injury in his first game

stop being a kobe hater theres far too many of you and give the man the credit he deserves

  • Hangtime Hec

Shots like these make it really hard not to hate Kobe. I was ready to call LA out of this game and he just made me look stupid.

  • http://MrBruCru.blogspot.com MrBruCru

I watched that whole game and knew from the get go that it was going down to the wire. On that last possesion, I was calling it as it happened, It was like a video game. In response to the MeloMan, I agree with you in CLE and DEN having the best game of the year thus far, but I wouldn’t call anything Kobe does “average”. He’s done it 5 times this season that’s why Slam Posted the video.

Good point meloman why is that

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

@Todd… the Lakers missed 4 straight free throws before mayo’s two missed… so yeah!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

: ( awwww Melo, you going to be okay buddy? Sorry you’re so upset buddy!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

Mvp and Melo… I just feel so bad for you guys man. My heart is heavy for the both of you.

  • Lebron’s shooting coach

Lebron !!!! That’s how you finish the game !!! Watch and learn…

  • erich

    @ meloMan2.0
    Nice point.

  • http://Slamadamonth.com Mvp23100

    @james
dont be just pointing out the bias for the 2nd best player in the world

That pop up ad with the shrieking bats is way too freaking loud.

I dont know why people hate Kobe so much? He has hit 5 GW’s since Dec and has proven time and time again that he is the best in the game. The prognasticators wanna crown king james the MVP and greatness but hasnt done anything but put up staggering numbers. In pressure moments with 5 secs left, I’d go with Kobe, Melo, Wade, Durant……and maybe Lebron but he tends to rely on his shot to get the finesse jordan feel but its not working for him.

  • Farman

This is the difference between Kobe Bean Bryant and Lebron James. Just look at the game against the Magic on Sunday. In 4th, you have people like Parker and Williams taking shots near the end, and with Kobe, he takes over. He had so many game winners I lost count. I know it near 40. King James, 1. Last year vs. the Magic in the playoffs, where they had no business being that close in the series anyways. Maybe Queen James is the MVP of the league. Yes, Kobe has better talent around him. BUT, doesn’t take away from him still being the best in the world…………

  • http://missjia.com meloMan2.0

Thanks Jackie…. but i sorta had a Slamonline.com post in mind

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nima Zarrabi

One of the biggest benefits of living in SoCal, other than the 300-plus sunny days each year and the fact that the most beautiful women in the world take residence here, is being able to watch Kobe Bean Bryant and the Lake show on a regular basis. “Yawn” is right. Myles nailed it.

  • Richard ESQ

Kobe Haters Die Hard. If Lebron or Melo want the crown, they are going to have to take it from him, no matter what ESPN or the Kobe hating world says.
“Lakers were 4-1 without Kobe, they are better without him…” So I guess Ilgauskaus is the favorite for MVP, cause Cleveland is 1-3 since he left.

If its the final 2 minutes of a tight game, and you are going against Kobe Bryant, do you really have any confidence you are going to win???????………….I didn’t think so.

  • vtrobot

what’s there’s to hate about this? dude is unreal. bron definitely isn’t nearly the killer that kobe is right now. that’s not saying that he won’t eventually be, but he isn’t now. i often hate kobe and the lakeshow, but give credit where it’s due. looking forward to some sure battles this playoff season.

  • Rusty

No matter what else you say about the man, he is clutch like no other…

  • Extendo

@meloman – Cause this is the sixth time he’s hit a gw field goal this season. the post is ANOTHER game winner.

  • http://Slamadamonth.com Mvp23100

Yall so full of shit bron hit nearly the same amount of clutch buckets but hes only been in the league half the time kobe has what does that say like my man said on sportcenter brons 1 and 2 for mvp voting 24 and everyone else come in third

  • jdn41

he was three of four from beyond the ORRRCCC

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

SIMPLY THE BEST, BETTER THAN ALL THE REST, Kobe has proven again why he is the real KING, and plus doesn’t he have four rings. Kobe hit two three pointers, one to tie and one for a one point league, that’s clutch. For all those loving Lebron, he can’t shoot, he has to drive on late game seconds to score, that hinders his game, He can’t stop and pop. I watch so many games where all he has to do is stop on a dime and pop, but would rather barrell into someone then shoot=Lame, Give me KOOOOOOOBBBBBBEEEE!!!!

  • Farman

MVP23100, explain to me like I’m a village idiot, all the game winning shots Queen James has hit!!! Cause I made a mistake. The Queen hit one last year in Golden State. In Golden State!!! So that makes it 2 for the Queen. How do you even compare the two? Talk to me when the Queen starts guarding the best players too. His Hype is bigger than his game. Why is there is so many Kobe hatters? I’ll tell you why. Cause when he is on the court, he wants to eat your heart! Like Michael, Magic, Larry, Isiah, the Doc, and so on. The Great Ones! Let’s stop being more concern who is in the crowd, but who is on the court. That my friend, is KBB………

  • Elias

Meloman2.0 maybe they put this because that’s Kobe’s first game coming from the injury and that’s also like the 6th game winner from him in this season. And the Grizzlies are pretty good this season.

  • T-Money

    sigh.

  • http://missjia.com meloMan2.0

@Elias… thats understandable… but Melos shot was from the game of the year so far… i can almost guarantee that if kobe hit one over LBJ’s face it would be all over here… just show respect when its due

  • Shem

Melo doesn’t hit game winners half as much as kobe, memphis is a decent team and kobe was coming off an injury so..

  • nastierthanu2

Kobe’s talent level is high. He’s polished. Lebron’s just gonna have to wait for the crown or take it Nuff said

  • CJK

@the Seed: I like Kobe too, but how can you say LeBron has to drive? Remember this?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fD1MNjkPFs

doesn’t look like driving to me.

  • Dallas

I agree with meloMan2.0, Melo’s game winner was a tougher shot, in the face of Lebron, and with a lot less time.
Memphis had like 3 chances to win this game.

  • bill breedley

its not that this magazine is in love with kobe, the fact is melo took the shot over lebron. the same lebron these douches salivate over. hence, posting that shot would put the queen in a bad light.

still the number of game winners kobe has nailed this year is crazy. clutchest of the clutch. that melo is a close number 2.

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

We should post Kobe’s game winner against Dallas!
    Oh….
    oh wait…

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

Kobe is the king of game winners because he hogs the ball and misses enough that the team actually HAS to win via two points instead of blowing out the other team.
I don’t actually mean that, but figured I’d let The Seed read it and blow a gasket.

  • http://www.teflinprague.com SAB

i like how, during the course of these comments, Kobe has gone from “5 game-winners this season” to “SIX game-winners this season!!”. anyone care to list them?
    still, dude is cold-blooded.
i also liked the line “LeBron hasn’t done anything except put up amazing stats”.
