Video: JR Smith With a 360 Alley-Oop

This space is normally reserved for humiliating facial dunks, but what J.R. Smith did last night was simply too filthy not to get properly featured:

FILTHY. I’ll make the obvious joke: Where was this in the dunk contest?

  • DIMITRIS DIAMANTIDIS(click on my name) Posted: Mar.11 at 10:17 am
dunk of the year and one of the best of the decade. If it had been performed by LEBRON/kOBE it would have taken consideration for one of the best ever. At the same time it would have been dificult for those 2 superstars to perform something so risky that can esaily lead to humiliation…Kobe tryied it some years ago in a game against the Mavs and i thought that ,had he succeded, it would have been top-5 all-time (the degree of difficulty was higher for Kobe though, half-court pass that goes orizontally and not a vertical lob pass that j.r.received). The only thing that is missing from this dunk to be considered top-10 all-time (except the aforementioned absense of a superstar ) is the fact that j.r.smith barely manages to complete the dunk. If he had his hand 3-4 cm closer/above the rim then the ball would have went in with the speed/power that is appropriate for great dunks. Anyway, this was one crazy dunk that unfortunatelly i am afraid will not get the hype it deserves. Let’s put it another way: In order to perfom this dunk you need to have the vertical/height to dunk on a 7 footer. IF you have those physical tools, it is WAY more difficult to do this dunk than dunk on a good 7 footer.

It probably could have been a 720 if he wasn’t weighed down by all the bad tats

  • ryandeahn Posted: Mar.11 at 10:36 am

J.R. Smith-The Scarecrow of the NBA. “If I only had a brain.”

  • Jeff Henderson Posted: Mar.11 at 11:53 am
haha, Brad That is great J.R. ” The Scarecrow” Smith.

  • bakers' dozen Posted: Mar.11 at 1:01 pm
the best part was that it was a bad pass that was behind him, but he still pulled it off.
LeBron and Kobe don’t have the sand to try to pull this off.

  • barnabusb Posted: Mar.11 at 2:01 pm
    That’s good stuff right there.

  • T-Money Posted: Mar.11 at 2:21 pm
the horrible alley oop passes make for the best finishes. kobe did something similar against philly i think in the halfcourt 4-5 years ago.

  • Tee Posted: Mar.11 at 2:38 pm
Those familiar with And1 know who made this dunk popular. It’s Waliyy Dixon, aka “The Main Event.” This is his signature dunk. He was doin this in 99′. Probably earlier then that.

  • KCremin14 Posted: Mar.11 at 2:46 pm
    Hahaha @ Brad!!

http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/2010/03/lebron-james-alley-oop-dunk-of-the-year/ Lebron doesn’t have the sand?

  • MikeC. Posted: Mar.11 at 4:11 pm
Why wasn’t JR invited to the dunk contest? Maybe the league was worried he’d just jack up crazy 3s instead of dunking.

  • Josh Posted: Mar.11 at 4:53 pm
Are you serious about the pass? It was a thing of beauty!

  • Mr. Jones Posted: Mar.11 at 4:54 pm

@davidR – minnesota fans didn’t realise what THAT was… they were looking around, for the ref asking if that was a legal move or not?

  • Royal Posted: Mar.11 at 7:59 pm

  • live210wers Posted: Mar.11 at 10:20 pm
If jr had a brain he would be a superstar.. athleticism and talent smith is ill

  • nastierthanu Posted: Mar.11 at 10:26 pm
Nasty straight nasty. That would’ve won the dunk contest. he didn’t plan on pullin the 360 when u see the ball in front of the rim, u must reverse it but withe the burst of speed he had once he planted his feet his head continued to twist and his body followed which created the “cats cryin baby cryin wam bam thank u mam mojo”. @bakers dozen it wasn’t about the so called “sand”. Its was lift momentum and opportunity. All created by a poor lob. Thank u chauncey

  • Me Posted: Mar.11 at 10:50 pm
that was a nice 180 dunk, (i thought when it said a 360 he would catch it and then do a FULL 360)
nicest 180 dunk i ever seen

  • tealish Posted: Mar.11 at 11:08 pm
No, Dimitris. The main thing that’s missing is a defender. To be remembered among the greatest dunks ever, there needs to be some opposition overcome by the dunk. Otherwise, it’s just a fantastic dunk, of great difficulty, that is missing the “in-game” aspect of it (even if it is in a game, you know what i mean)

  • J Posted: Mar.12 at 12:21 am
defender or no-defender, still sick. number two, next to dwade-varejao poster.

  • str8 from samoa Posted: Mar.12 at 12:25 am
if it was a two hand dunk then i will say badd!haha

  • Michael Scorn Posted: Mar.12 at 2:07 am

    Autobots, roll out!

  • Dfrance Posted: Mar.12 at 11:33 am
The lack of crowd appreciation for that dunk is alomst more amazing than the dunk itself.

  • heh8meN1 Posted: Mar.15 at 4:25 pm
The Mamba DID do this plus an “AND 1″ almost 10 years ago against the 76ers. http://lakers.fandome.com/video/110895/Kobe-Top-10-Dunks/ Dunk number #3. Yawn.

  • daniel Posted: Nov.30 at 6:42 pm
to the dud that said it was a 180. yu cant jump up and do a 360 in the air. your body has to twist a little when you are on the ground to get the momentum to spin in the air. and that makes no sence what so ever to say a 180. because he was facing the rim when he dunked. and was facing the rim headed toward the basket. ignorrant people like yu are always hating.
