Video: Did Matt Barnes Push Kevin Garnett?

From the Orlando Sentinel: “Orlando Magic forward Matt Barnes said he was simply going for a loose ball when he hit Kevin Garnett in the back midway through the third quarter in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals Saturday night. Barnes banged into Garnett as Garnett sprinted toward the sideline to corral the basketball. Garnett then flew into Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, who fell back and onto a courtside chair on the Magic bench with 7:50 remaining in the third quarter and Boston ahead 56-38. ’We were both going for the ball,’ Barnes said in the Magic locker room after the game.”

Does that look like he was making a play on the ball? No? Barnes commited a frustration foul, probably should have been flagarant.

  • Fat Lever

Hahahah, KG pointing at Barnes like a kid tattle-taling(spelling obviously wrong). “He did it! He did it!”

    Who cares, really?

  • ripslam

Blatant shove. KG nearly sent Van Gundy through the floor.

  • barnabusb

KG is hilarious. Such a douche.

Barnes did push Garnett. But, props to SVG for taking the hit from Garnett and not getting p!ssed off, hitting Garnett or letting him fall. Good sportsmanship.

Barnes did it to dude twice! First, when KG set a screen, and then again when going for the loose ball. On a side note, I wonder if Van Gundy went back and told the basketball gods, “all those years I prayed for a player like KG to land on my lap, this is NOT what I meant!” Lol….

Also, the look on some of the fans’ faces are priceless. Almost as funny as the look on Jazz fans when Jordan hit that final shot in ’98 finals.

  • Captain Fantastic

Ha ha, KG got no peenuts.

  • amir

    KG, stop snitchin’

  • http://albayanos.com LeoneL

I think that’s a charging foul. SVG has his foot set.

  • http://albayanos.com LeoneL

    I mean his feet.

  • nastierthanu2

while everyone’s laughing if you watch any good team when a guy hits the floor you run over to help him up. Not one player on the court went over to help van gundy up. No heart!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yesse

I think he hit KG in the nuts on the screen too.

  • Ken

Honestly, who cares? Magic are gonna be swept, and nobody’s gonna remember this. It was a blowout game anyway.

  • RedRum

I am surprised KG took SVG down! I like burly SVG, I though KG was just going to bounce of him!

  • Gábor

SVG must be happy it wasnt Big Baby!

  • ripslam

    0:45 is priceless.

I don’t get it: Why is everyone sh!tting on KG here? On this occasion, he’s not in the wrong.

  • LA Huey

The way the Garnett and the Cs play, neither them or there fans can complain about what Barnes did. btw, props to SVG for taking the hit and breaking KG’s fall.

  • Robb

Matt Barnes thinks he’s tougher than he actually is. I don’t like the Celtics but Matt is a f**** joke.

  • don

i think the reason why KG pointed to Matt barnes is because KG didn’t want to be suspended for hitting a coach. that i think is a valid reason.

Wait a minute…Wait a minute…Wait just one minute. What kind of pass was Pierce trying to make???? Was that a no-look-shovel-toss-back-with-the-left-hand-in-traffic?

Where was Pierce trying to go, and was he seriously trying to throw a no look pass backwards????????

  • vtrobot

@ LeoneL: Ha ha. SVG’s feet are always set. He can’t help it. His chubby legs can barely move those feet.

  • BostonBaller

@Tzvi b/c the hate never ends for some fans. lol. My man KG was putting in some hustle and I’m glad he didn’t get hurt or hurt King Kong Gundy (Whom I like) Too many smiles on The Magic and they rarely help each other up. The Lakers run to help each other up and they adopted that after their 2008 loss in the Finals. I love this game!!!1

Moving screen: you’re doing it wrong.

  • ClydeSays

Flagrant. No play on the ball, push in the back.

The upside is that SVG used it as a teaching moment. “Rashard, Vince, Dwight, Jameer… I’m going to take a charge here. Watch…”

  • http://theurbangriot.com/ NUPE

That was clearly a push and then KG added a little (unneccesary) push himself. However, I think KG got lucky that SVG was there or he could have gotten hurt falling over the chairs.

  • Jacob (from Australia)

Bout time SVG sat his fat ass down for once.

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

this was the most fight the magic have shown all series.

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

I’m amazed by some of the negativity on this site. Because if you’d ask me: this was just a funny moment in the game. The Celtics made a bad play, Barnes pushed a little, and then KG collided with SVG. Nothing more nothing less. Let’s move on.

  • BostonBaller

I agree with G Himself as far as the overall situation concerning us fans but on the court the refs had to call it that way so as not to allow any potential aggressiveness that might result from it. To me it was an unnecessary and dumb hard foul that could have potentially hurt two people. It was more of a frustration foul than a dirty play. Everyone moved on so let’s get ready for game 4. @LA Huey, I’m assuming you say the C’s play dirty D and not hard nosed D? If that were the case then why is it that most coaches not only applaud the D but say they try to get their teams to play good d like that? There is a lot of smacking and elbowing going on in every game by every team and most fans only see the other teams doing it. I was yelling that I thought KG would be getting a small fine for how he ran into Van Gundy. Fans around me were going ssshhhhhh, they might hear you then laughed. No big deal..
