Video: Rajon Rondo Goes Behind the Back

Tired of seeing LeBron pin his layups against the backboard, Rondo finally found a solution to the infamous “chase-down” block, and it turned out to be the highlight of Game 4 between Boston and Cleveland:

    Awesome

  • http://thacorner.net/forums Kevin

Damn now that was nice. Rondo straight up balled, he was the best player on the floor in Game 4

  • LA Huey

I love watching the chase down block but I’m glad to see dudes not getting victimized so easily.

  • Yann Blavec

He punked LBJ the way Penny did MJ in the mid-90′s.

  • WB30

I’m a huge Cavs fan but this was just amazing

  • http://SLAMonline.com GotHandles?

    Holy Isht. That’s bananas.

such a smart play by rondo. eyes behind his head. also, tony allen deserves credit too for trailing rondo and being ready for the pass.

  • kh

sure it was a nice play but the previous 6 comments (excluding LA Huey) were a bit over the top.
    Bananas? Amazing!

Thank you kh. I hate it when people blow one play, or even a whole player’s career, way out of proportion.

  • mike

Rondo haters where are you now?

yeah, it also helped that Mo Williams didn’t even try to stop Rondo getting to the rack, he was so sure LeBron was going to clean up his mess.

  • Dallas

    NICCCEEEE !!!!!!!

    Is that Magic

  • NAS

SICK – Magic couldn’t even pull that one of; this guy is like PIPPEN with his shorts on FIRE

  • BostonBaller

I think Mo did what HE was supposed to do on that play also..not foul. I also think that that is a set defensive play between LBJ and whoever is the 1st one back on fast break D. One of my running mates and I used to set people up like that and along the baseline w/ semi defense to lull the driver into a false sense of openness. lol… worked like a charm for us. @ kh, if LBJ had done that play I’m sure the whole nation would have gone crazy and called it one of the greatest passes of all time just as they would have if he had done the move that TA did at the end splitting the 2 defenders and hanging in the air. Before I get chopped down just let me say that I’m a fan og LBJ’s (not a witness just a fan), I’m a fan of Kobe, Nash and others. I’m also a fan of guys like Big Z, Camby etc etc. I love this game and I say the C’s will win this thing.

  • BostonBaller

Best PG’s in the L in no particular order in my opinion. Rondo, Nash, C. Paul, D. Williams, Kidd, Parker, D. Rose, Billups, J Nelson, Eric Gordon, Jennings, Tyreke E, J Flynn is an up & comer as is Westbrook & Williams in Philly. The rockets have some good guards too and Calderon in TO is crafty. BUT are there 5 PG’s you can honestly name that are better than Double R?

    RONDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hillbilly

The NBA: Where “You got Rondo’d” happens.

  • ClydeSays

Great play. But I thought his rebounding was what gave the C’s the edge.

In terms of complete young PGs, I think only DWilliams comes close as being as good or better defensively. Rondo’s still got a ways to go on offense and just being consistent, but wow. He’s already got a boatload of talent to build on. He’s come a long way from a guy most ppl didn’t think was worth the 21st pick.

  • JD

    That was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

    That was pretty.

  • mike

BostonBaller – Lou Williams and EJ are not up and coming point guards, Lou is a 2 and will take a backseat to Jrue and EJ is a 2 and always will be

    tony allen jumps really slowly.

@KH Everytime Lebron gets on of those “chase down” blocks its blown out of proportion so I can accept people going a little over the top for this incredible pass by Rondo.

  • ripslam

Michael Scorn, LMFAOOOOOOOOO: Thank you kh. I hate it when people blow one play, or EVEN A WHOLE PLAYER’S CAREER, way out of proportion. Is Scornie mad that Bron got his ass punked by Rondo? kh is also underrating it. There is nobody, and I mean nobody else in the League who could even attempt this play, much less complete it.

  • pais

@ripslam – so obviously you play netball, trust me basketball’s better you can see stuff like this on a fairly regular basis.

Degree of dificulty 6/10, overall performance 10/10. We’ve watched 2 seasons of LBJ chasing down and annihilating dudes,it’s about time someone remembered the 6’8 240lbs monster who just so happens to have the speed of a puma.

  • Logues

would make a nice poster on the next “SLAMUPS.”

  • BostonBaller

Yes, with all of the super athletic players in the L Rondo’s play was exciting but not one of a kind. It was indeed about time someone used their brain on a fast break. Another way would be to drive at an angle and use the rim for protection or as you go up for the layup you lean back to make the chaser bump into you as you attempt your layup. It always (well almost always) work back when we played. lol

  • http://slamonline.com niQ

So yea, Mo plays some pretty good defense.

  • tbizzle!

the best part is always when lebron tries to call one of his teamates like, “hey why you let that happen?!” he was prolly talking to verajo who flopped.

  • nastierthanu2

Uhh that wasn’t a big deal

  • http://www.youtube.com/ The Promise

I think its hilarious, because LeBron thought he had another Sportscenter top-10 block. Not so fast.

  • JoeMaMa

Wait, wasn’t the highlight the dunk? Ferrr-ohhh-cious!

  • JW

Yea, yea, it was a nice move but Rondo took 4 steps after the dribble. 4 freakin’ steps! I think my 6 year old daughter could fake out LBJ if the refs gave her 4 steps.

  • Noel

Not that amazing of a play but so artistically executed by Rondo, and cooler because of LBJ flying by. Could watch it all day.

  • J

that was a great play indeed. but lets not overate things. (including bron’s chase-down block) he did saw bron and tony allen early on.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

That was a VERY nice sequence. The way Bron flew out of bounds, nearly kneeing Rajon in the freaking HEAD as he flew by (talk about midair collision) and the great pass, then the crowd’s reaction. This is why i love this game.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Also enjoyed @pais description of Bron: 6’8, 240lbs monster with the speed of a Puma. Nike should market that. “WITNESS…..The speed of a Puma.

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

@JW where do you see Rondo taking 4 steps. Its funny how everyone is a referee now. Your two step count doesn’t start until you actually pick up the ball. After Rondo picks the ball up, he only took two steps.
