Links: Big Wednesday
Pressers and parties and soccer, oh my!
First of all, big thanks to Brandon Jennings for sitting in with the SLAM crew all night last night at the NBA Draft. If you didn’t see our liveblog, you can read it here. Brandon’s cooler than a polar bear’s toenails. Brandon and I went at it live for over two-and-a-half hours, by which point we were both just wiped out. And then we walked out of MSG and we jumped in a cab, and immediately ran smack into heavy traffic, so we sat there in the cab for another half hour. Fun.
As I told someone this morning, I feel like I just finished a marathon. If everyone on the televised version of the Draft seemed a little tired, that’s because everyone related to the Draft — players, agents, journalists, whatever — has spent the entire week running around New York City going to press conferences, events, parties and meetings. By the time the actual Draft rolls around, it’s a real relief.
Which isn’t to say it’s not fun. Wednesday, for instance, it was 93 degrees in NYC, and the SLAM staff was not only finishing the new issue of the magazine on deadline by the skin of our teeth, but we also had a Reebok event for John Wall that morning, and then NBA Draft media availability that afternoon, then Steve Nash’s annual Showdown in Chinatown soccer game that evening. We all carried cameras with us, and I put this little video together of our Big Wednesday. This was filmed/shot by me, Tzvi Twersky, Ryne Nelson and Matt Lawyue.
