Video: Ryan Harrow – Flashiest PG in the Nation?

Next season, NC State freshman Ryan Harrow might prove to be the nicest (and, yes, flashiest) player in college basketball. He certainly was one of the most exciting PGs in the Class of 2010. But Harrow was born with none of the hoops prowess that he now possesses. He earned the nickname “The Recorder” for his ability to learn the moves he saw on the AND 1 mixtapes and from other players. Dude trains and trains and trains like he’s going somewhere fast. If he keeps it up, Ryan Harrow may very well be going the the L.

    Kid is COLD!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

This might be the most random video ever posted on SLAM, at least the first part.
Was that an open run at a gym?
Whose cousin is this? Why the hell is he being featured? I don’t know much about high school hoops, but this felt random as a motha.

  • mattyp32

sounds like he hasn’t even hit puberty yet.. good player though. The pass at 4:10 was sick

  • JuicyM

Wow this kid is annoying. That ego and all that dribbling sure wont get him to the L

  • The Philosopher

    Not bad.
    Not bad at all.
    He seems well spoken.
    Get that degree!

  • chrisneww

that really was random as hell. myck kabongo is ‘flashier’ imo

  • http://slamonline.com Ben Osborne

Crazy voice, amazing game. High School Hopefuls, which we link to above, is a series our man Maurice Elrod has. He sent it to us asking if we wanted to post. Given what a nice player Ryan is, we said yes.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

All right, I looked dude up online and found some regular game footage. Now it doesn’t feel so random.

  • Kadavour

this kid needs to get on a 3x weekly squat routine. i could turn him into a beast. he has the skill, all we need to do is work on his strength and athleticism

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

Pounding the rock but not really going anywhere, then cutting the clip short, before we see the bricked jumper. And-1 indeed.

  • Raeniel

    Sick shorts.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

I watched this video without sound at first. Wow…does this kid have an Adam’s Apple? He’s still nice though.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

lol all you dudes who don’t know yet, just prepare to hop on bandwagon real soon. Im in southern VA right now so I’m gonna get all the NC State games on CSN YESSSS!!!!!!

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

best ball handler since like….man I don’t even know, its been a long time since I’ve seen a dude who can handle the rock that naturally. This is a virtuoso type player right here. He’s 10x better than what Telfair was back in 04. Special talent. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a better year than any of the PG’s in 2010 they ranked over him.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

If you search for the dude you’ll find actual game footage. He can hoop, but this particular video just seems really weird.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

Boing Dynasty…either do your research and look dude up or shut up…either one bruh, your choice

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@Allenp thats why you reserve judgment before you do your homework….smh anyways if yall don’t know the name now you will eventually. Got snubbed from both the MickyD’s and JB Classic, but like I said it would be no surprise if he’s ACC FOY

  • theSOSA

Ryan court awareness, vision, passing ability and composure is the most amazing part of his game. His explosiveness, ball handling skills, jumpshot and ability to get into the lane are all added bonuses. Do some research before you attack the kid. As a matter of fact watch as he runs through the ACC this year.

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

Na, i have lots of choices, one of them is not doing research on random high school kids, instead i happened to watch this video, and comment on this video. I didnt say he cant play, im saying this video was edited like an And-1 video and if you didnt have a wierd little boy crush on him maybe you wouldnt have taken it so personally. “Bruh”

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Gotta agree with Boing here, as you can see from my initial comment.
This reminded me of when me and the homies used to tape our games in high school and college, not of a serious highlight reel.
But, I now understand that wasn’t the point of the video, it was kinda of like the “Real NBA” joints, only they picked some horrible game footage to use.

  • Loaf

    nice player

but that voice is annoying as hell, dude sounds like mike tyson

  • dmoore

a younger Brandon Jennings, the L is gonna be a guard dominated league for a while

what happened to all the gigantic high school big men, the league needs size badly, no offense to Javale McGhee, but if the US team had to send him to play for the national team, something is terribly wrong

  • onlyclipsfanonslam

    I’m a momma’s boy too but I don’t have those handles :(

  • jrp14

I was skeptical after watching this…..then I saw this

  • Hussman25

Catch up people who don’t know. Him and JT Terrell are the best frosh points coming in the ACC!

  • The Philosopher

I was thinking the same thing about the Jennings comparison.
I didn’t have time to respond to someone who may try to humiliate.
    Now I do.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I loved it when he said “i just let the game come to me…”, looking at that free style technique, ‘letting the game come to him’ is probably the last thing that he allows. I would like to see his turn over / assist ratio and his fg%.

  • http://www.buttonmasher.co.nz TimProvise

sounds like a lil mike tyson

  • Brendan

Not all that impressed…I’ve seen better players at the JV level…which is about how old this kid appears to be.

  • Brendan

Although I must admit, the kid can fly.

  • Ronald

Despite him being all “and-1″ and the tape trying to do the same, you can tell the kid knows his fundamentals. Whenever he does the moves (esp the rafer alston tornado crap) he doesn’t move back into a dribble (unlike the other and-1 guys) because it would be a carry, instead he goes into a layup which seems to be quiet fundamental. And his jumper looks very textbook too. But, it’s true that he doesn’t look very athletic or very fast.

  • havana

not sure why Slam decided to post the absolute worst video of the kid. Try this for size : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9QWBvOfRow&feature=related

Never heard of him, but after a quick youtube search this kid can definitely ball

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

Slam, you really shoulda posted actual game/tournament/AAU footage of this man, because apparently not many people keep up with high school hoops…@Brendan how have you possibly seen JV players better than him when he’s in the ESPN50?? huh? that even make sense?

  • andy

i’m beyond excited to see this dude come into the L and tear it up like Jason Williams did back in ’99-00

  • Mitya

    I got the same shorts!!
Loved it when he said “back when I was young”.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Dude,,,,

Check his other videos… for his height? He has RIDICULOUS hops.

He seems to have it all: Court sense, poise, athleticism, solid fundamentals…. This kid is gonna come out of NO WHERE and surprise the shit out of everyone.

Still abit skinny though… and I read in an issue of SLAM he collapsed due to poor conditioning. But those things are fixable.

  • Maurice Bobb

This kid is nice! At that height, to be able to sky like he does? Nice. Love his handles, too. Don’t know how that will translate to the next level, though, because coaches hate that kind of flashy dribbling…

  • kaboom

why so much hype slam??..well,it’s september

  • Jose

Ryan is gonna be next up. I cant wait to see him at nc state. My favorite player to watch in his hs class. Nobody can tell me with a straight face that kendall marshall is better than ryan harrow.

  • Kene

This kid is the truth. End of story. If you don’t know his name now, you will in a year. Best handles in college b-ball since Iverson was slashing through the lane down at Georgetown. Ridiculous hops for his size, and a pretty sweet jumper too. The kid’s legit. This is actually my favorite video of him:

  • http://www.highschoolhopefuls.com moelrod

i wanna hear what the skeptics say in about 3-4 months, when he runs thru the ACC… and for the record, the video was created to show the public behind the scenes footage into the world of these high school players and not so focused on highlights. Its NBA Inside Stuff for high school ball players…something new!

  • Bill Phillips Jr

I have to seriously disagree about Ryan not being “born with bball prowess”. I saw him when he was about 7 or 8 playing with Team Georgia KILLING players several years older…like 13, 14, and some 15′s. This kid has always been more than amazing. Mark simply fine tuned Ryan. But Ryan Harrow was killing this game long before this “recorder” nonsense. Hell, he was the highlight on Team Georgia’s 15 & under elite team and he was only about 9 years old. The gyms used to be standing room only. Ryan would have about 18 points & 16 assists…at halftime! You can sell this idea about not being a “natural” to someone else. He has always had the “killer instinct.” In fact, the attribute that he’s most criticized for as a weakness, his size, is actually he strength. In a game, with officials, he is much too fast and crafty to ever be held. His court awareness will severely punish defenses that even remotely attempt to doubleteam him…and no one man can hold him. I can’t wait till the season starts at NC State…so he can silence the “Naysayers.”

  • mark edwards

Bill…..why did you bring up my name….did you hear me say I made Ryan into “whatever”, no….he mentions my name because of the work “we” put into his game…and for the record, Ryan was my next door neighbor when he was 9 years old and was around me, Hotsauce and the whole And1 Mixtape movement when I was touring. I am a friend that helped a young man reach his goals and thats it…people need to stop trying to interject negative things and comments where their not needed.
