Slamadaday: Dexter Strickland on Kyle Singler

Not only did UNC lose this game–the ACC Tourney Championship–to Duke, but this dunk was ruled an offensive foul. Still…Dexter Strickland climbed high enough to kiss the sky, and almost high enough to clear Kyle Singler.

    impressive how Dexter contorted his body so not to make any contact with Singler….moreso impressive that the gust of wind created by his takeoff was strong enough to drop Singler back 2 feet

    bad call. he makes an effort to jump away from singler and singler flops with it. the “Charge” call prevalence in college game one of the reasons I prefer to watch the pros. what is exciting about somebody sliding underneath someone and holding their stuff, hoping they don’t get hurt? contest that in the air or just gtf out of the way

    I agree completely. Too many charges, and way too many random three pointers after five passes around the perimeter. Yeah, the League has too much iso, but I hate contested ill advised jumpers way more than iso moves.

    Anyone else thinks the college three should just be moved back to NBA range? Get more drives and real play in the game. Even I can hit a college three all day.

    This was a great call by the refs, 1 Singler was out of the restricted area, 2 Singler was in position and still before strickland took off, 3 contact was made. There for it is a player control foul and Duke gets the ball exactly as it was called. I was at this game and thought maybe he was still sliding but after review Great call by the refs.

    No problem with charges in the game but you’ve got to earn it by being set and taking it in the chest old school style. This one Singler clearly moves his upper body to the right and even then only just catches a shoulder before collapsing like a fallen oak. He sold it well enough but if a ref can’t see that then he has no business reffing in games of this magnitude. Horrible horrible call.

    Charges are too hard to call. There is too big of a wondow of inconsistancy. I have seen too many game won and lost based on these judgement calls at every level.

    Yeah the amount of flops taken by Duke in that game… it almost completely put me off college hoops. Driving and dunking is almost unheard of because refs reward flops so often. That was the definition of a block; the guy moved his feet, and he got caught on the shoulder, not the chest. Terrible call.

    Reason #358 why Duke is ruining basketball, the fetishization of drawing the charge as good defense rather than a complete wuss move. Man up and challenge the shot or move b*tch, get out the way.
