For Old Time’s Sake: Dana Barros

All-Star

Dana Barros was drafted 16th overall by the Seattle Supersonics in 1989. He backed up Gary Payton for 4 years in Seattle before being traded to the 76ers (via the Hornets) in ’93. He thrived in Philadelphia and earned All-Star honors in 1995 when he averaged 20.6 pts, 7.5 asts, 1.8 stls and shot 46% from 3-point land. He also won the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award that year. After a breakout year in Phili, Barros signed with his hometown Boston Celtics where he was used mostly as a backup PG. In 2000 he was traded to the Pistons and was subsequently waived by them in 2002. He rejoined the Celtics briefly in 2004 before retiring. Barros stood at 5’11″, 160 lbs. He had a pretty solid career considering his size and the monsters he was going up against every night. Shout out to MISIEK for the mix.

I love how the young guys have such a limited scope on who was who back in the day…. and I’m taking only about 1993-1998?! To some young ‘uns that was ‘before their time’…. but it was only recent history and certainly the GLORY years prior to the lock out there in 1999.
