Sorry.
sad state of affairs indeed.
But Toronto fans disappoint (again)
As for his tweet, which I saw when it first posted and knew was going to be a problem, it’s what typically happens when cats speak on complicated issues in 140 characters or less.
Lin is balling. His story would be compelling regardless of race. But, his race is definitely part of the story and has been discussed and dissected as such. Just like his Ivy League background. Yes, he’s more popular because he’s Asian. Just like a black presidential candidate got more attention because he was black. Novelty creates attention. Defying expectations and stereotypes creates hype and attention. That’s all that is happening.
It’s funny how people think discussing race and the role it plays in our actions is racist. It’s also funny how many people say stuff like “This would have have never happened if I was (insert race)” and then turnaround and call other people racist when they do the same thing.
Weird.
Straight bullsh*t.
Teddy is Asian, Myung is Asian, both of them have spoken about insensitive comments made about Lin’s race on this very board. Other Asians have done the same at other locations, but since those are the spots typically covered by ESPN nobody is paying attention.
Floyd Mayweather makes a ridiculous comment, and Lin is being persecuted? Please. The vast majority of the attention devoted to Lin has been positive. Very few people, particularly people in his business have spoken out against him.
Hell, Tim Tebow got hate just like Lin, and you know what, Christians were incredibly angry and scrutinized every comment about him.. It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with the profile of the group that’s involved and how easily their message is gotten out to the masses. The media has chosen to speak to Al Sharpton and thus he has been anointed the spokesperson for black people despite the variety of different feelings most black people have about him. That’s because that’s the cat the white-dominated media wants to hear speak because he produces easily used information for their news packages.
@Red, you sound like somebody who is racist.
@Allenp, they’ve both backed out from fights for there own reasons. But pacman has said he will fight, but mayweather feels like he is too good and doesn’t need to prove it to anyone.
@uglyfish, I agree with you. And I’ve noticed those same points myself.
You didn’t hear about Floyd booking the date in May, and the venue, and then reaching out to Manny to schedule the fight. And Manny saying he won’t be available until June, which is of course when Mayweather will be incarcerated?
Floyd wants to fight on his terms, Manny wants to fight on his. Nobody is ducking anybody, they both just feel like neither of them should have to compromise.
Well, I’m not a boxing fan, so my comments may be off, but from what I understand Pac initially balked at blood testing similar to the kind done for the Olympics, then said he would submit for a set period of time, but not randomly throughout the training period.
I don’t find a blood test request to be out of bounds. Doping is too prevalent in sports, and in a sport like boxing where you risk you life the entire bout, I would want to be absolutely sure my opponent was clean.
If Floyd is the best, then I can see why he would feel it’s his right to dictate terms. Conversely, I can see why Manny would refuse. what I can’t see is why people want to call either one of them cowards.
Manny disagrees. Neither of them is scared of the other one. That just seems ridiculous.
