Video: Metta World Peace on the Conan O’Brien Show

‘I’m like that retro player.’

Metta World Peace must serve two more games in his suspension for elbowing James Harden in the head, so he’s gotta find ways to stay busy these days. Metta made an appearance on Conan yesterday, and talked about the suspension and why he didn’t personally apologize to Harden with a Lakers/Thunder Playoff series looming.

    Shots fired at Reggie Miller?

  • Josh

    Class Act.

  • Heals

This is why I reacted the way I did to the thoughtful piece posted 10 days or so ago regarding the media’s coverage of Artest/the perceptions of mental health issues. The guy is a media whore plain and simple. So although many pundits were off base with their armchair “analysis/prognosis” of the man/the incident; he’s deserves it for the way the hams it up and clamours for any and all the media attention he can find…

  • Zabbah

I probably wouldn’t say it in front of James Harden’s face, but I think he faked that concussion. I don’t know how much he paid those Thunder doctors to write him a concussion but dude has a history of flopping like a soccer player. He makes Manu look good. Anyone remember Harden’s flop against Perkins? Disgraceful. Leave the acting to Hollywood and the European soccer players, Harden.

@ Zabbah – Did you see the elbow Artest threw?!?! How could you possibly say Harden was faking a concussion after that MMA hit Artest laid on him? Artest shouldn’t be playing at all in the playoffs this year, espcially since he has a history of doing dumb@ss stuff like this.

  • KG

Metta is still in my top 3 players to watch. Hopefully another ‘chip this year.

  • @boweezy24

I Was Thinking The Same Thing, He Was Faking. No Doubt The Elbow Hurt, but Not No Concussion. Dudes A Flopper. Every Flopper Should Get A Good Elbow! “Flop That!”

  • Drig

@Wayno……..exactly what is this history you’re talking about???

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

Never knew you could fake a concussion. Learn something new everyday.

  • permaculture james

I did martial arts for some years and Artest’s elbow was a money shot.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

this guy is such a fuggin moron.

  • swizzy

    Def talking about reggie miller.

  • MookieBlaylock

whenever I got a concussion as a kid, I would just run it off. Im just old school.

  • EJ

@Drig: I think Ron’s been suspended quite a few times.

faking concussion? the amount of stupidity coming off of you two is insurmountable.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

This is Artests 14th suspension for sure. And I believe his 4th for violence.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Ron’s the man!

  • leavei

Its possible to fake some concussion symptoms. When diagnosing a concussion, some of the tests are meant to determine if a person is showing symptoms and how legitimate they are.

  • elmaar

ron is a ridiculous flopper himself first and that hit on harden was a complete non basketball play. Shaq on game time put it best – at the time when he was playing and throwing elbows in the post at least the person guarding him knew he might receive one and that’s completely different from when you hit an unsuspecting person when there’s no basketball play involved. Ron is no old school. He has mental issues, that’s obvious. Hope Harden destroys him if the is opportunity presents itself.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Right, so James Harden would totally fake concussion symptoms to purposely miss games at the end of the year, because he didn’t want the first seed in the West.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

yep he wants to whoop Reggie’s @ss. Sorry Reginald.

  • Treshiq

    reggie miller.

  • bike

See, he just doesn’t get it. He never learns anything from these suspensions. They could mandate 400 hours of impulse control management and he still wouldn’t get it.

This guy, Ron, is a danger to himself and others. Artest = Hulk. Perfect example, except not funny at all. Stern just doesn’t want him with all kinds of free time. Hope Artest and that Christmas chick don’t meet. Delusion at first sight. Stay outta Denver, Ron.

James Harden dove. Plain and simple. bike go to hell nobody cares about you. Same with teddy the bear.

Bryant Bynum with the well chosen, well articulated, important points being brought up.

  • @boweezy24

They Lied About The Concussion and The test, and Everything. They Want MWP Done For The Season Probably.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    that doesn’t make sense.

  • hepburn m

Poor decision, to deem and make this a comedic rite!…we like queen Victoria’are not amused’this last act on the court; could have ended in a fatality…SHAME -MR ARTESE/METTA-WORLD/…WE NBA’SPORTS FANS DESERVE YOUR PENITENT SILENCE…PERHAPS YOU MISSED YOUR CALLING:WRESTLING/BOXING/?…DO SOME MORE SOLE-REFLECTION IF YOU ARE GOING TO REMAIN N.B.A….

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

@ Drig – Are you seriously asking if MWP has a history of making idiotic decisions on the court? Seriously? Have you watched basketball before? That was a ferocious elbow which was completely unwaranted. It’s not like Harden was taunting him or sh*t talking, he was minding his own buisness. 100% cheap shot. MWP shouldn’t be playing in the playoffs.

    13. April 24, 2012: 7 games for an elbow to James Harden’s head.
    12. May 5, 2011: 1 game for hitting J.J. Barea in the face.
    11. July 14, 2007: 7 games for domestic violence.
    10. April 24, 2006: 1 game for a flagrant elbow.
    9. November 21, 2004: 72 games and the playoffs for fighting with Pistons fans.
    8. March 19, 2004: 1 game for a flagrant elbow.
    7. March 20, 2003: 2 games for accumulated flagrant foul points.
    6. March 13, 2003: 1 game for a flagrant foul.
    5. March 9, 2003: 1 game for accumulated flagrant foul points.
    4. February 26, 2003: 1 game for disciplinary reasons.
    3. January 29, 2003: 4 games for all sorts of stuff.
During a 2003 game between Artest’s Pacers and the Miami Heat, Artest flipped off the crowd, flagrantly fouled the Heat’s Caron Butler, “confronted and made contact” with Heat coach Pat Riley, and taunted the Heat bench. All of that earned Artest a four-game unpaid vacation.
    2. January 4, 2003: 3 games for throwing a television monitor and smashing a camera.
    1. February 21, 2001: 1 game for fighting.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

So you’re right Drig, he doesn’t seem to have a history of incidents like that…

  • don the GSW fan

wayno, thanks for shutting up THOSE people. *looks at the guilty ones***

  • sam

“Bill Laimbeer and I had basically the same game”…..are you serious? No way! Laimbeer just got called for fouls and the Bad Boys were a team and just dominated other teams…ARTEST did this by himself! He should be thrown out of the NBA.

Thanks lakeshow. elmaar can go fu*k himself as well

  • http://www.yahoo.com berkamore

I read a piece on Grantland on the brawl in Detroit in 2004. Seems like after the brawl, in the Pacers locker room, Artest asked his teammates: “Are we gonna get in trouble?” The guys just laughed and somebody said something along the lines of: “Trouble? We’ll be lucky if we still have a job.” One of the worst brawls in NBA history and Artest doesn’t know if he’s gonna be in trouble. I mean, I had to laugh. That guy is just (and I am being nice here)…..in his own world. He just doesn’t get it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

That Grantland piece was incredible btw…if any of you haven’t read it you need to.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I didn’t think the Malice in the Palace was that bad. He had an understandable reaction, and the fans behaved worse than any I’ve ever seen in the NBA. I would have fought them too if I were a Pacer. On the other hand, there is really no justification for his elbow on Harden and he’s acting like a semi-douche about it even now.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

But… if I were a Pacer, would there have still been a brawl? #thebutterflyeffect

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

  • Top$helf

Revenge will be served next round I hope the Nuggets take them to six so ron ron can get all of it up in his mouth

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    ^ co-sign, lol.

  • Jerome

They just swept an organization that swept L.A. last year. Artest is going to hurt somebody like Russ or KD, then Stern will have some answering to do. But he won’t answer to a damn thing. #baconlips

  • everything

i expect artest to be more passive after the elbow incident. i hope he jacks up bricks

  • supahotbooooooiiii

I’m soooo sick of this mthrfckr. He acts as if he didn’t realize anything happened. Then this a-hole implies that it was actually James Harden’s fault. I honestly hope he gets a career ending injury the next time he plays. Such a piece of $hit. I bet even mild-mannered Conan wanted to shoot this guy this guy in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun for all the BS he was spittin out. Never hated this guy anymore than I saw this interview. He tries praising himself and acting as if he’s innocent.
