Video: Dwyane Wade’s Great Block Leads to Rajon Rondo’s Amazing Pass

Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo both made incredible plays in the span of seconds midway through the fourth quarter last night. After Wade leaped for the stunning block on Brandon Bass at the rim, Rondo tipped out to Mickael Pietrus in even more stunning fashion for the big-time three pointer.

TREMENDOUS athletic play by Wade. Not too many so called elite guards would risk their image by trying to block a big head on.

But Rondo’s pass was better when you consider the confusion that ensued after the ball somehow popped back out and there was no real play to be run. He went up with LBJ and had the presence of mind in the midst of chaos and court vision to beat the best in the game to the ball and tap it to Peaches. And, of course, credit Peaches with knocking it down.

I thought that was the turning point. Had Miami gotten that rebound the crowd would have been insane and the C’s would have been deflated. Difficult to overstate just how many such remarkably heady plays Rondo makes on a nightly basis that aren’t quantified.

In addition to this DW3 had some amazingly acrobatic lay-ups too. Crazy play, just one big moment after another last night…

and the rebound layup with left hand by rondo was amazing too

The second part of the headline of this video really bugs me… First of all it was not an amazing pass… When a ball goes up in the air and you see another player taller than you going towards the ball, that is what your supposed to do because you know you cannot out-rebound that person in that particullar play. Rondo just happened to notice Petrius on the right wing before jumping for the ball. At times I feel like Rondo is wayyy over rated, dont get me wrong he is probably the best point guard right now in the league. But i think in time people exagerrate on him. And no this is not a Miami heat fan upset about the loss. The better team deserved to win this game no question about it.

I didn’t think it was an amazing pass either.
    Rondo has been great tho.

My roommate stated that that block reminded him of back when Wade was in ‘Christ-Mode’. Made me laugh pretty hard.

  • logues

wade has to be the greatest shot blocker at his position (SG) ever.. he has some of the best blocks i’ve seen. jordan was pretty good too

Amazing pass, anyone failing to see that needs to either watch closer or just leave us lovers of the game to it.

  • Chorejas

The look away pass to stinhman was an amazing pass, the 2 alley oops t K.G. we amazing passes, the behind the back to K.G. for the jumber was another amazing pass… The TAP pass (because it was his only option at the moment because of when the ball was in the air) to peaches was a SMART tap pass, not amazing. If you played ball and know what you are talking about you should recognize that but if you “love the game” because you watch it then i also understand you are a viewer and not a player..

  • Riggs

its an amazing pass due to the time it took for him to calculate everything. Are you telling me he knew that wade was gonna block bass’ ball beforehand? come on now.

  • Chorejas

the ball came towards his direction. he did not sprint to where the ball was headed and made the bass, he just jumped towards the ball… Its a no brainer play.. It was either that or try to tap it to yourself..

  • Chorejas

He did not sprint to rebound or tap pass the ball, the blocked ball came towards him and he had already seen “peaches” on his right so he had to options 1. do what he did or 2. try to tap it to himself to win the rebound. Trust me im not a hater like i said on my post above the better team won and Miami looked horrible once again. Just that one particullar play is not an amaizing play. It was a smart play with a great result.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no need to question someones basketball knowledge because they don’t agree with you. I personally think it was a great play by Rondo. Yes the ball came right at him, but he really didn’t have a lot of time to decide where to tip the ball. And it wasn’t a light tap to a teammate standing right next to him. It was pretty much like a chest pass the way peaches received it.

  • Drig

Regarding the Rondo pass, smart? yes. Awesome? no. He did have other stellar passes in the game though. That pass fake and a easy layup for KG comes to mind immediately.

  • What

Hey Dummies the pass was much greater than the block. Wade did to Bass what Rondo did to Bron But Rondo swatted it directly to Peaches numbers. BALL DONT LIE.

  • lakernation

Great block but they lost…. why post this bullshid!

  • Chorejas

Thank you! Drig… It seems that you play ball also and you are not just a fan that WATCHES basketball..

  • lakernation

I rather them call it ROndo’s great pass/rebound!

  • http://www.soundcloud.com/tray-5 T-Ray

I don’t see where it was that amazing. It was a smart play considering the circumstances but if you see your player spotted up in the corner for the 3 and the only way to get him the ball is by tapping it then it’s not amazing it’s just the right play. The one handed rebound put back was much more amazing than this.

  • ClydeSays

The weakside block by Wade was great, but Rondo rebounding with his left & then hitting Pietrus with a touch pass in one motion? Come on! That was incredible skill & court awareness.

  • King23

Rondos pass was the best play of the game ….You’re welcome

  • paul

I love the crazy logic of the haters. According to them, Rondo making the best possible move in a situation is not admirable because it was the best possible move in that situation. But Wade making the best possible move in a situation is admirable because it was the best possible move in that situation.

Wade made a fantastic play. Rondo made a better play. The kid is on fire.

  • riggs

    Chorejas: what a stupid comment.

Paul, the diffrence is, there are many people on this site who could make that pass.
