Kobe Bryant Accepts Kyrie Irving’s Challenge to Play 1-on-1 for $50,000 (VIDEO)

Trash-talking at its finest.

Kyrie Irving, who put on a show during scrimmages against Team USA Olympians, was feeling himself and challenged Kobe Bryant to a game of one-on-one. A bemused Kobe gladly accepted, placing a $50,000 bet on the outcome of the game, and mercilessly trash-talked Kyrie. Hilarious stuff.

I wonder if Kobe realizes that this is how the Dream Team is looking at him right now…

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

    ^this. Also, love Kyrie’s balls.

  • thor

    Wow. Kobe would dare losing.

Gotta love the confidence, but why Kyrie say he’ll be ready in a year LoL…The young man can dribble, but don’t see him getting kobe at this stage. I love the banter though…

I seriously hope uncle drew shows up!!

Kyrie should have challenged Horry Jr to pass the ball to the open man … He never would have taken that bet.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHoliday

Kyrie said a year because that’s a year’s more worth of mileage on Kobe’s legs lol. I would’ve said 2 years! Kyrie do look like he’s feeling himself in this video though. Wouldnt have expected that from him. Then again, gotta be confident to play this game at that level!

  • pposse

how Kyrie gonna challenge Kobe and then say he needs a year?! WTF kobe 33 goin on 34, he tryin to play him further past his prime!

Kyrie said a year because Kobe can’t risk getting injured before the Olympics in a pickup game.

    Lol @ FnF

Don’t get excited because this game is NEVER going to happen. Never.

…but if it did, Kobe would dog walk this kid. One on one isn’t about “handles” and open court moves. Kobe is too big, strong and SKILLED for Irving, period.

His only hope of winning would be to get the ball first and hit every shot and never lose possession. Anything short of that then it’s a wrap for him. There is no second line of defense, no 5 second back to the basket calls and no 3 second violations.

    Game over.

  • Corky

“I KNOW your DAD don’t think you can be me one-on-one. I KNOW that.” ~K. Bryant

    That sums it up.

  • Red Star

    Kobe! You’re welcome!

  • Björn Atli

Kyrie should whoop Kobe’s ass dressed like Uncle Drew

  • OTB

Eh, one-one-one I think Irving could probably beat a 35 year old Kobe, and I’m a Kobe fan. If Kobe misses one shot (which he will) Kyrie is going to blow by him from the perimeter. And I believe he can hit shots from the outside at a decent clip. Kobe is too slow to guard Irving one on one. Love the banter though, you can see just how much Irving respects Kobe in the clip even though he’s talking all kinds of sh*t to him. “You just came out of High School!” haha.

Wow, this is so cool. Love the banter, and Kyrie’s confidence, but no, don’t make that Black Mamba angry!

  • bdogg

that is funny..props to kyrie!!! i give the dude credit!! talkin trash with the big boys!

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

What I like about this is Kyrie is confident in his game. I think he is a superstar player already, once he gets some real parts. Cavs should have went after OJ Mayo, and let some other team draft Waiters. Kobe would destroy Kyrie, but Kyrie will be on the next Olympic Team. I would take him over Russell Westbrook for international play, not NBA play.

  • http://whut Ugh

Trash talking with the big boys? His best line was “he thinks he’s playing Lil Bow Wow”. Which only set Kobe up. The game will go as the smack talk did.

  • http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2012/basketball/story/_/id/8159879/2012-olympics-michael-jordan-laughed-kobe-bryant-dream-team-boast Valkyrie

Kobe promised 50 on the Cavs next season. I can’t wait to see it. I actually think the moment Kobe misses even one shot it’s over in a one on one game. He has the size advantage but at his age I’m not going to automatically say he’d shut Kyrie out. It’s Kobe’s rep that has people thinking he will, not his current game which is still potent.

  • ducadae

As someone pointed out. With no rules like 5 seconds back to the basket, offensive/defensive fouls, etc… how can Kyrie compete. Kobe could post him all day long. Kobe may not be as quick, but he could sag off a little bit and let Kyrie miss a J. When he does (and he will) the game’s a wrap. But thinking you can beat Kobe, says a lot about what the kid thinks about his game.

  • patrick

Good. Get rid of the dunk contest, and instead put a 1 on 1 competition into the NBA all-star weekend

  • Joshua Symons

Hey Kobe why dont you take someone your own size… Is that all you got? 1on1 50k on a 6″3 point guard??
Man take on KD and lets see you talk…. Lets see you guard Lebron… Mr 5championship… Damn… KD will whoop yO assss!!!

  • Corky

Am I missing something? Is Bryant “slow”? Irving is effective in games because defenders not only have to deal with his speed but plan for him passing, screens, and attacking after the catch.

1 on 1 is much different. He has two options shot or dribble. Kobe is 6’7″, perennial all NBA (offense and defense) and a superb post up guard…who, by the way, only has to do two things…SHOOT OR DRIBBLE AND SHOOT!

Unless Bryant is playing in a body cast or playing all left handed it’s no contest! Like Kobe said, Irving better get his pops on the line to talk some sense to him before he ends up broke giving away 50Gs on foolhardy attempts at bravado.

  • ratguts

    Somebody get Bryant some overalls.

  • Michael

tell u guys what i wish the nba did a 1 on 1 tourney @ allstar weekend ratings would be insane, think about it, dwight vs bynum durant vs james rose vs westbrook can u imagine?

  • Jre

@Joshua Symons Did Kobe Challenge Kyrie or did Kyrie Challenge Him?

Ya’ll really take this too serious be catching feelings over Grown men that don’t even know you exist

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Ohhh young bucks.
Kyrie could probably beat him. Goes back to the Dream team argument. Anyone can win 1 game. Depends on how things are rollin.

  • pposse

i cant wait till feb 2013, kyrie will be humbled by another pg not too far away from lame cleveland

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

Kyrie trying to play Kobe while he using a walker. Challenge yourself and do it this year foo.

  • Allenp

Omphalos’ comment didn’t get nearly enough attention. That was more suspect than John Travolta.

  • Brandan E.

hey Kyrie wants to challenge the best, so i applaud him for that.
u dont see him walkin up to lebron or kd and he’s younger than them!
The young kids today know who the best is…..kb24!

  • Valkyrie

I peeped the “I love his nads” comment. Still surprised he hasn’t clarified yet. ‘Guts’ would have sufficed.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

Kobe is in trouble when the young guys are talking smack to him like that.
That said I feel Kyrie will be an absolute superstar in this league, barring injury off-course. His ball control and brashness reminds me of Isiah. I think he will eclipse both Chris Paul and Derrick Rose within the next 2 years. He’s that good!!

  • thegman8

kyrie has apparently forgotten that kobe dropped 42 points on him and cleveland just last january…

  • A.

@Brandan E.: Or maybe it’s because LeBron is 6’8″, 265lbs and KD is 6’11 and Kyrie being only 6’3″ would be at a MUCH MORE severe disadvantage than against a 6’6″ Kobe. Just maybe. But hey, Kobe is still the best player today according to you, so what do I know?

  • Conoro

    ^Cool it, psycho.

  • Carlito729

Nobody could tell the future….Kobe is one of the great players in the NBA, Irving is an up and coming all star. In this game stats are just on paper. Anything can happen at any given time, the kid is going to play his heart out to prove hime self, while Kobe is going to use his experience. It should be fun to watch.

  • http://Hotmail Peter

What shoe is kyrie wearing on that video

  • TheGreatOne

Kyrie needs to show some respect. The kid hasn’t really done anything, and he is talking about playing 1 on 1 with one of the greatest 1 on 1 players of all time. We aren’t talking about screens being set, or pick and pops. How often does Kyrie get double teamed….Kobe is right, Kyrie had better watch some video, and also see how many times Kobe was all Defensive team. Also how he picks apart individual defenses 1 on 1 without help. It’s funny, because it reminds me of how many chumps i’ve run in to talking the same kind of smack that i’ve destroyed for a fraction of that money….Very similar, and I know many can relate…who actually play competitive basketball….I like the confidence though, but tone it down.

  • dwayne belton
