Blake Griffin Denies Deron Williams at the Rim (VIDEO)

Watch it in slo-mo.

Blake Griffin is known for making highlight-reel plays on one end of the floor, but occasionally he can impress on the defensive end, too. Here, the Clips big man meets Deron Williams at the rim and forcefully denies what the point guard might’ve thought was going to be an easy dunking opportunity. The NBA’s Phantom Cam provides a slo-mo look at the sick block.

Given his athleticism, there is NO reason why he shoudltn average 2 blocks a game… But we all know thats far from the case.

I loved watching Blake so far this season. Dude has really stepped it up on both ends. He still needs work on his post game, though. It’s like he’s still trying to out-quick his defender instead of being patient, strong, and deceptive. He needs a session with The Dream.

the day Blake Griffin becomes a good defender is the day he becomes elite

LaPhonso didn’t sit down, though. Props to Deron for trying.

Standing reach is a better way to look at potential as a shotblocker, along lateral quickness and correct timing. BG has a shorter standing reach than Kris Humphris, has tremendous lateral quickness, and a rather average understanding of timing…

I personally don’t think he’ll ever block 2 shots a game, but he can certainly be an effective help defender and use his quickness to rotate over before the ballhandler gets at the rim rather than relying on length to challenge shots.

there are quite a few elite players in the past and the present who couldn’t make free throws

  • LakeShow

    Ryan Hollins made that possible.
