Carmelo Anthony Tried to Confront Kevin Garnett Following Loss (VIDEO)

The short-handed Boston Celtics eked out a tough win in New York last night, taking down the Knicks 102-96 in an emotional affair.

Kevin Garnett and Carmelo Anthony jawed at one another repeatedly throughout the matchup, each earning a technical foul in the process.

The tension remained high after the game, as Anthony attempted to confront KG in the locker room and near the C’s team bus. With police officers, security personnel and Knicks head coach Mike Woodson intervening, eventually, cooler heads would prevail.

From CSNNE:

Celtics coach Doc Rivers had little to say when asked about Anthony approaching his team’s locker room after the Celtics win which extended Boston’s winning streak to three in a row. “I’m going to let y’all figure that one out. I’m going to stay out of that. If it was the playoffs I’d tell on him,” quipped Rivers. “But since it’s not I’m just going to be quiet.”

Garnett chalked it up to just a couple of players trying to do what they can to help their respective teams be successful in a tightly contested game. “Heat of battle, guys go back and fourth,” Garnett said. “He’s trying to get his team to go, I’m trying to get my team to go. Both teams are colliding; not to mention it’s the Knicks and the Celtics. That’s just what it is.”

Carmelo Anthony had himself a horrific night, shooting 6 of 26 from the field, and clearly got taken out of his game by Kevin Garnett’s words and antics. To make matters worse, he will likely face punishment from the NBA for escalating things after the final whistle.

Most of these guys aren’t fighters. We all saw the Nuggets-Knicks fight when Melo was still a Nugget so we know he isn’t exactly willing to stand toe to toe and throw hands. Would have loved to have seen what happened when KG arrived. Probably just another heated discussion.

    MELO’S A NEW YORK HOODLUM!!!
    -
….MELO AIN’T BOUT THAT LIFE DOE
    I REMEMBER THAT “SLAP-AND-RUN”…

  • http://twitter.com/stepfdelaghetto Stepfan Raiford

Everybody knows that KG using trash talk to get in opponents heads. Very surprised Melo fell for it. Probably a combination of him shooting 6-26 from the field. But as a veteran you should know and not allow KG to get in your head.

  • danpowers

the knicks got really good at playing basketball this season, but to take the next step they need to show more class, too. anytime teams get under their skin they blow off, especially melo. too much losing temper and whining to the refs. i really hope they learn to change that come playoff time. was positively suprised by the attitude jr smith showed during the game tho

  • vtrobot

Been so many close C’s/Knicks battles during the past several seasons. ‘Specially @ MSG. Truth LOVING all the hate, etc. Great stuff. Nice rivalry of some pretty evenly matched teams (yeah, Knicks are getting better while the C’s are getting worse).

  • ENDS

    He ain’t about that life

  • danpowers

true true. as if it was a scret b4 the game that kg would provoke his post opponents. falling to that was really childish

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Let’s also remember that Melo missed 20 shots last night. May have also added to his frustration.

  • Redd

He was waiting to punch him and run, obviously.

  • roscoe

and ppl wonder why every once in awhile a couple bad “nba fan” apples (ie young men typically) get into fights after games…

wake up melo… you were a bad example for “dumb” fans waiting by the buss…

you should make it clear, fans should not act like you, and you made a mistake.

this incident can easilly influence the MVP vote, the race is tight between Melo, Durant, Lebron (CP3 also ?), after this they might not want to vote for him.

  • Shifty

Even though KG trash talks a lot and people jump on his back for it at least he knows when to leave it off the court. Glad C’s won, that’s three solid teams in a row now. Also that was one of the best games I have seen all season, two gritty eastern conference opponents going at it.

  • macaroni

    Lmaooo

  • RunNGun

That’s typical KG for ya; an intense competitor. MELO fell for it…

  • Max

    CP3 most definitely belongs there.

  • http://twitter.com/vannshy vannshy

yes, i mean if the Clippers finish with the best record in the L he has my vote.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Melo is not a realistic MVP candidate. Sorry dude.

  • Clos1881

I love it we (celtics ) will be in the top 4 seeds by all star we’re a completely different team with Avery Bradley the Knicks do not want that matchup against the celtics.

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ben Osborne

Should def know how to deal with KG by now. Beat him on the court. This was lame.

  • http://twitter.com/vannshy vannshy

he’s putting the numbers along with the Knicks winning, it reminds me of AI back in ’01, who would’ve thought AI could possibly be MVP at the begining of that year ? No one, same as Melo here. I heard what you’re saying but for me he was a MVP candidate, before that incident.

  • K_HOLIDAY

Yes he is… Most Volatile Player!

  • Max

Knicks won’t finish with the best record, and that’s his only shot IMO.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Well, AI didn’t have 3 players that were clearly better then him that season. Melo is competing with Tim Duncan for 4th right now. He is a volume shooter, who is not very efficient. He’s a poor defender. Really, the only positive about him as the MVP is that he is the leading scorer among the top 5 candidates. Other then that, his team has a worse record, he’s less efficient, he has a lower PER, he’s a worse defender.

    .

basically, the, “Melo is MVP” conversation, lasted 2 weeks. It’s dead now.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

KG said Melo’s wife tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios.
    .
I would have punched him in the throat. You don’t bring up someone’s family, even if you just talkin sh*t.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

do you even know what KG said?

  • At the moment CP3 is above Melo and maybe even Lebron…

  • Dymez

C’mon, man… If it’s really that serious, we’ll see what’s up in a month. Both these cats will be in the same locker room, no cops, no security. But I’m sure it’s not that serious — not even a little bit.

  • roscoe

    h-n-c…. lol.

Melo go home and get some pussy from LaLa, you KNOW you aint about that life. it looked good for Knicks fans and the camera though.

  • Ghost361

People trash talk all of the time in the nba. I agree that Melo needs to stay more composed about this but think about it, what was said for him to take it to that level. KG is known for saying some reckless things on court (ie Villanueva and Anthony Peeler). Melo trash talks all of the time but I think something personal was said here that’s not bball relAted that incited that response from Melo.

  • Redd

Wait seriously? Wow yea I always hated KG.

  • Key_34

All this “can’t believe Melo fell for it” talk is funny. Melo didn’t fight him during the game, so what did he fall for? KG crossed the line obviously. Melo tried to see him AFTER the game, not during. You can say whatever you want during the game to get under someone’s skin, but you can’t be upset when you get ran up on after the game.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

LOL @ HNC. KG was clearly trying to get in his head and it worked. I mean, c’mon, KG made fun of TD’s dead mother and he didn’t snap and let it get to him on the court. Melo should have known better.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Tim Duncan HATES Kevin Garnett bruh.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    yeah seriously.

  • Key_34

And if what is rumored KG said about LALA is true, screw all that Melo punch and run talk. Fam is off limits. Hasn’t Melo knocked out dudes about LALA before??

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

and there is just no way i will ever find bringing up someone’s family funny

  • Redd

Man..that’s just dumb of him & so disrespectful. KG is a punk..but Melo is too for that hit on Jared.

  • Troy

I don’t hate this from Carmelo. It’s a little childish sure, but I think it sends a statement to the Celtics and the rest of the league: The Knicks are ready for war.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

I’m not sure how often KG guarded him in the game, but if this altercation and his shooting % were any indication, I would think KG did his job well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

Well, yeah, it crosses the line. I just thought referencing HNC of all things was what is funny. But I feel like a lot of people say stuff like this to get opponents riled up (“I f***ked your girl, etc.). Its upto Melo to respond without letting his anger get the best of him, which is exactly what KG wants.

Again, making fun of someone’s DEAD MOTHER was the absolute worst – this is nothing compared to that. I’m sure there’s been worse stuff said in the NBA then “your girl tastes like HNC”.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

what’s worse is not the point. killing someone with a gun isn’t as bad as waterboarding them to death, but you are still killing someone.
    .
bringing up a guys family in any way shape or form is crossing the line. how a player reacts to that, is his own personal thing. I will never judge a person negatively for getting defensive about their family. Especially when their family has absolutely nothing to do with the situation where they were insulted.

  • airs

    How’d you find that out?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

people told me. Bryan Crawford initially. but i’ve heard it from a lot of people in the basketball community.

  • Boing Dynasty

Melo grew up in West Baltimore, and stayed alive, just so that you nerds can quip fake-witty nonsense about “he aint bout that life” Life too cruel.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

I know he does. He just didn’t go chasing him after the game and got all riled up during the game (as far as I know) and let it affect him to that point like Melo did. I’m using TD to illustrate that KG has said been harsher to others without them reacting. Shaq has said that TD was the one guy that people would always talk trash to (whatever that may entail) and he would just go back down low and score on them anyway.

I don’t blame Melo for reacting, but I mean, trash talk is part of the NBA. I know he’s used to being buddy-buddy with most of the league, but KG is not that guy. KG wanted a competitive edge by taking the Knicks best player out of the game mentally, and it worked.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I will never judge a person negatively for getting defensive about their family

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

He’s so hood that he will sucker punch a man and back pedal away swiftly.

  • ThaWindy

    What..she does..

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

    Exactly.
