Carmelo Anthony Tried to Confront Kevin Garnett Following Loss (VIDEO)

The short-handed Boston Celtics eked out a tough win in New York last night, taking down the Knicks 102-96 in an emotional affair.

Kevin Garnett and Carmelo Anthony jawed at one another repeatedly throughout the matchup, each earning a technical foul in the process.

The tension remained high after the game, as Anthony attempted to confront KG in the locker room and near the C’s team bus. With police officers, security personnel and Knicks head coach Mike Woodson intervening, eventually, cooler heads would prevail.

From CSNNE:

Celtics coach Doc Rivers had little to say when asked about Anthony approaching his team’s locker room after the Celtics win which extended Boston’s winning streak to three in a row. “I’m going to let y’all figure that one out. I’m going to stay out of that. If it was the playoffs I’d tell on him,” quipped Rivers. “But since it’s not I’m just going to be quiet.”

Garnett chalked it up to just a couple of players trying to do what they can to help their respective teams be successful in a tightly contested game. “Heat of battle, guys go back and fourth,” Garnett said. “He’s trying to get his team to go, I’m trying to get my team to go. Both teams are colliding; not to mention it’s the Knicks and the Celtics. That’s just what it is.”

Carmelo Anthony had himself a horrific night, shooting 6 of 26 from the field, and clearly got taken out of his game by Kevin Garnett’s words and antics. To make matters worse, he will likely face punishment from the NBA for escalating things after the final whistle.

Yeah, they’re not, but KG’s tactic wasn’t to get into a fight, it was to get into Melo’s head and bring him to that point. And it worked. The focus no longer became the game for Melo, it became his hate/anger towards KG and it seems it completely took him out of the game as a result.

They are also ready for suspensions.

    And TD wins out.

  • Redd

    Exactly

I think the Peeler incident happened cause KG elbowed him first. He’s said worse to Charlie V and Duncan though.

none of yall are “about dat life”, stop saying it. You sound like a moron.

Not judging him myself. He’s justified to get mad, but that’s what KG wants on the court. Its head games – I’m sure KG could give a sh*t about Melo’s wife or TD’s mother, or CV’s cancer, or Calderon’s whatever, or whoever else he’s picked on over the years. He just wants to win by any means necessary, even if that means being an absolute d**k.

I wish they would release a unfiltered on-court trash talk segment, I’d pay good money to hear that stuff.

    Which part?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

man you don’t get it. i know why KG does what he does. but….
    .
I DON’T CARE IF THAT’S WHAT KG WANTED TO DO.
    .
    It’s wrong. – whether it’s mission accomplished or not, i don’t care.

  • Anthony Norman

As a KG fan I find that hard to believe. KG always personified respect for the GAME. Such a comment disrespects the game via disrespecting your opponent. NBA fraternity is small, smaller w/ stars like KG/Melo. Talk about him, his game, his failures as a person & a man, his inability to perform, but targeting a man’s wife or mother…that speaks to your lack of character as a man.

  • Thawindy

Maybe KG knows something we don’t. Maybe LaLa use to get it back in the day. Maybe one of KGs guys told him she taste like HNC. Maybe KG knows from first hand experience… Melos reaction makes me believe that’s there might be some truth to the real taste of nuts and honey…why else would he get so mad?

  • Guest

Can you cross the line when trash talking or is everything fair game since it’s apart of the game? Just a thought.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

You find this hard to believe? He talked sh*t about Tim Duncan’s dead mother. Told a guy with Alopecia he looked like a cancer patient. — this is actually mild for KG. but it’s still crossing the line.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

have you ever heard of Rules of Engagement?
    .
    cuz those apply to war.
    .
    this is a f*cking game.

  • pposse

so u dont believe kg said to tim duncan “happy mothers day mothaf**” either? or charlie vilanueva openly admitting that KG called him a cancer patient?

  • shockexchange

Of course you wouldn’t nbk. “… apologize for what Allen? The Shock Exchange that comments is Ralph’s son.” http://www.clicky.me/slamqa

  • http://twitter.com/_DFrance DFrance

Unless Lala really tastes like honey nut cheerios, and Melo has reason to believe that KG knows that firsthand, there’s no reason to get that mad about that comment. To me that’s not out of bounds trash talk because its made up. Talking about something real and tragic like Duncans mom is out of bounds. “Ya girl tastes like breakfast cereal” is not.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t find any of that funny either.

  • shockexchange

It wasn’t meant to be funny … meant to show how you speak with “forked tongue.” You know Bryan Crawford bout as well as the Shock Exchange does. Stop it.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Lol – the comment about you – it is you, not like it was ever even refuted by your dad – was not “talking sh*t” – it was honest and relevant. I didn’t say, “Ralph’s wife smells like lemonade, so I don’t care about this book” – maybe try and understand the difference in context. .
    - And what are you talking about, concerning Bryan? I talk to him on twitter multiple times a week, and he’s who first told me, directly, what KG said. I didn’t say I “know” him. I don’t know what you are trying to pick a fight about.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

And, what if there is more to the “honey nut cheerios” part of it then just saying something to get to him mentally aggrivated? —- like say, Lala actually wears some perfume or somesh*t that does smell like Honey Nut Cheerios? – just a hypothetical example.

  • fruizm

    word?

  • RayJr

KG was being nice compared to his usual trash talking standards and I don’t think there is a line for him to cross. Anything seems to be open game.

  • Max

It must be so nice in the Eastern conference locker room at the ASG.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

This is what I mean. Its not even that bad of a comment. Like I said, people make “your girl” comments all the time, even on the playground. This is a juvenille diss and a juvenile response by Melo.

  • Anthony Norman

Call me skeptical…I believe half of what I see & none of what I hear. Along with that though I wouldn’t be surprised. I’m just saying it goes against the publicized persona of KG for his trash talk to include personal cheap shots such as this.

  • Anthony Norman

If he did say that, I agree absolutely, it crossed the line. (thinking about it) I honestly can’t say him saying that wouldn’t make me a KG fan anymore though cause I’m also a fan of KB24 & we all know he’s supposedly an a**hole personally.

  • roscoe

talking about anyone’s family, religion, & or politics is not fair game according to me… its not good and always ends bad.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i am still a Kevin Garnett fan. a huge one. this stuff doesn’t change my opinion of them as player’s. and my opinion of them as people does not relate to anything i care about basketball wise.
    .
my point is simply, “this crossed the line, he shouldn’t say stuff like that” – and that’s as far as i care to go.

  • Dutch Rich

KG on life after basketball, in his own words.

    “I’m going to disappear”

    No $hit!!!!!!

  • shockexchange

    LOL.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    thought so.

  • Brownjesus

I say its all fair. You should be able to say anything you want to get into their head, but with the understanding they can do the same.

  • roscoe

let me say after reading what “honey nut cheerios” was referring to… i don’t find that funny at all… sheeezz

Melo fell right into the trap KG set for him last night and cost the Knicks the game. He took about 4-5 bad shots in a row as soon as KG started egging him on.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

people on the playgrounds typically aren’t married public figures, playing a game for millions of dollars a year either.

  • bike

Melo kept telling himself ‘let my game do the talking’ but after going 6 of 26, he decided that old saying was just plain stupid.

  • phil

Agreed. Talking about someone that has cancer or saying you slept with his wife is out of line and in poor taste. KG is a scumbag. I would’ve.took the fine and suspension after I broke how nose. Bet u he stops going over the line.

  • initbruv

That’s not what your sister told me.

  • danpowers

even if kg said smth like “i come to your house eat your children and f*ck your wife” if he ticks out and gets mad, he just lets kg succeed over him and this is what happened more or less

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    IT IS A GAME.
    .
KG shouldn’t be crossing the line to make that distinction matter dude.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

The sport is still the same, and the concept of trash talking is still the same whether its on a playground or the MSG basketball court. Just because they’re celebrities now doesn’t mean that the subject of trash talk has to be different. I’m sure Melo has heard much worse on the court and off of it – and do you really believe that the statement in itself is that vicious?

I mean, what do people think NBA players are saying to each other when they’re trash talking? Its not as if KGs going to be all polite when he’s trying to get into the man’s head.

  • danpowers

sure, but he is a celtic so i dont care about him showing such a week character on court. as a knicks fan i just care about the knicks players and i wish they, or in this case melo, would show more greatness out there in this kind of situation.

woodson shouldve just substituted kurt thomas for one minute to give kg a whooping, live with the 2 shots and suspension and put melo back out there

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    it’s not the same concept.
    .
Saying someone’s wife’s p*ssy tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios.
    .
(You work at Target or whatever. Another Target Employee from a different state tells you, infront of everyone (but quietly) at some Target sales by state competition, that your wife’s vagina taste’s like sushi.)
    .
    is closer to that ^.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

considering how Melo reacted, i’m thinking NBA player’s don’t talk about each other’s families on the court very often at all. they are professionals, that are paid by the same company, that are part of the same union. it’s pretty much expected that they treat one another with a level of respect.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i mean, the guy said something about Melo’s WIFE. i can’t really blame him for reacting. his Knicks jersey, and profession are second to his family. —- granted, you are right that he shouldn’t have reacted that way. but it really shouldn’t be surprising or disappointing that he did. most men would.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

That’s a completely irrelevant analogy. The concept of trash talking is not a part of Target (or any corporate) culture; however, It is a known and accepted part of basketball culture from the playground and up. Even in the professional ranks, we as fans constantly revere trash talking and chippiness, etc. So, now when we actually hear a taste of what is said on the floor, its too much?

Maybe KG did cross a line by bringing his wife into it, but I mean, again, I’m sure much worse has been said on the court by NBA players. As I said in the other thread, I’m more impressed by Melo talking it out with him man to man and telling him that family stuff is off limits moving forward.
