Andrew Wiggins’ Senior Year Mixtape

The SLAM 167 cover boy is a monster.

Earlier today, SLAM 167 cover boy Andrew Wiggins was named Gatorade’s High School Player of the Year. The uncommitted senior averaged 23.4 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 2.6 bpg and 2.5 apg while leading his team (Huntington (WV) Prep) to a 30-3 record. As expected, the versatile swingman’s season was chock full of highlights that show why many believe that he is the next big thing in the NBA. Check out the vid from our friends over at HoopMixtape above and get familiar.

Ah, the gift of young legs. Even when I was young I didn’t have young legs.

    imagine being immune to gravity…

Wow. Just wow. His head is even with the rim on some of those jams and that spin move is off the charts. Wow.

I feel like right now he is a 15-20 ppg 5-7rpg 3apg 1.5spg 1bpg kinda guy right now. His physique is jordan esque with an extra inch or two. Im not saying he will be the next jordan but for some odd reason he reminds me of him more than any current player.

  • RayJr

He doesn’t need to prove himself in college. Just sit out the year, train and gain 15+ pounds. He is locked for next year’s #1 pick.

he’s more of a SF/PF, not SG/SF. think more along the lines of a modern day Dominique.

  • RKJ92

I been saying he’s exactly like Dominique for like a year now lol, everybody seems to want to compare him to other players though glad you see it my way. I feel like he is like a Dominique with no ceiling though, and with a WORST case scenario he would be like Rudy Gay with better efficiency, and passing

Him too yeah most definately but at only a 205 I mean he could put on a nive 15-30 pounds over the first 5 years or so. I think he can play all three he will be more effective at the 2 and 3 though.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    he won’t play the 2 at all. He’s too big. He’s a 6’8″ 205lb 18 year old. He’s not a 6’8″ 205lb full grown man.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he’s not a shooting guard. i’ve seen more Tracy McGrady comparison’s then anyone, and he’s not a guard like McGrady was. He’s far more physical. And he is more apt at attacking the basket then he is to score off of creating space.
    .
Basically, he’s more LeBron James then he is Kobe Bryant. (since those two draw the biggest reaction in terms of style of play).

Yeah really though I been watching him and I see it more now thanks to you guys. What is crazy is that he can still grow more I kinda hope not though. His handle needs to be a lityle tighter and for more consistancy i want him doing jumper drills ASAP. This guy is gonna be great though.

This cat is going to be a beast in the Pros. That spin move of his is the best I have ever seen.

  • TR

Yikes…should be cool to see him at the next level vs some stiffer competition

  • DannyAingesBarber

Wow, what a beast. I only saw one jumper in there though. I hope he doesn’t depend too much on his hops because he’ll need to be well-rounded when he goes up against pro competition. I can’t wait to see this guy play going forward!!

  • Max

    LMAO

  • RKJ92

I never once said he was a sg though, he is a SOLID 3. Deff not a 4 he used to play on my bball team for a summer he’s not a Tracy McGrady though their bodies are very similar, Wiggins is NOTHING like Kobe as far as game style and similarities so Idk how people got that comparison, and nobody can be compared to LeBron James period! that dude is his own animal, that’s why you have to look at someone like Dominique who didn’t necessarily always have a fluent shot but he could still shoot none the less, he was a man-child at the sf position 6’7 230 (while Andrew is 6’7 *not 6’8* 207lb) with a huge vert and big hands you can see why this comparison is the best one out there, because we can safely assume due to Wiggins body structure he could fill about 30-35 pounds no problem when he starts his nba conditioning and about 2-3 years to give him safely 10lb a year which I see as extremely feasible.

The problem is, it’s not 1986 anymore. The definition of a SF and PF has changed. And Andrew Wiggins might not be completely done growing anyway.

I foresee that in the pros his rebounds will go down and his assists will drastically go up. If I’m a GM I want this guy with the ball in his hands for the majority of the game. I want him to set pace because of his speed and agility. He can take anyone off the dribble. he’s got Penny Hardaway written all over him.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

LeBron is a far better player with the ball and everyone pined for him to get in the post. When Wiggins fills out it will be the same situation. Except he won’t have the whole “top 10 in assists” argument to support his perimeter orientation.

  • TBRK

wait till he puts on some muscle…..my goodness

  • fishsticks

Man did you see the size of some of those kids he was playin? Hobbits. Not sayin Wiggins isn’t a beast, or tryin to take away from him. But there were a couple hobbits out there

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com/ Dutch Rich

Lebron wasnt as good off the dribble at the same age. This is not a knock on Lebron but more a testament of today’s ball handler, which is at unseen levels. But the reason they wanted Lebron to add a post game was because defenses made him ineffective on the perimeter in late game situations while peer pressuring him into living up to the Jordan comparison. Lebron has enjoyed enormous success when he was handed control of the offense. He has very much morphed into a much more athletic Magic Johnson, don’t you think. But it’s really difficult to judge Wiggins in his current setting and I’m afraid a college career won’t reveal much further with the exception of Kentucky perhaps. I would love him out on the perimeter with Michael Carter Williams in the Cuse, but we’re not on his short list.

  • Michael

My goodness this kid got some ups. If he lives up to his potential this gonna be one of the best players of the next 10 years.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

LeBron was better with the ball. I realize Wiggins has great crossovers and spin moves in his highlights, but LeBron was better with the ball. Flash is different then skill.

Reminds me a lot of Penny. As he gets stronger his handles will get a little more controlled. Love the spin moves. Too bad we didn’t see a lot of passing in this edit.

He did get stronger and his handles are more controlled, all I need to see next is his passing. I’m getting a closer look at the Jordan Classic coming up. Can’t wait.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

He’s not an off guard. So hopefully whatever footage you see in the future makes that more clear. And we can stop comparing him to SG’s that dominated the ball.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000166716900 Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Im not saying he is a SG im saying he could do stints at the position in a big line up. In a fast small line he could be a four for a period of time. But his natural position is the SF. I know power forwards are coming in a mixed bsg today you have your manimals and then your Blakes then K Love, three really different versions of one position so yeah I see what @nbk is saying. Even with sn extra 30 pounds i believe he is still a primary SF. as far as handling the ball I believe he was no better than james at this point he csn hit you with a real nasty spin or cut through the lane. I dont really see a lot of penny in him he can drop dimes though but I dont feel like that setting others up is his first motive. I know once 2k15 drops he will be so unfair to play against.
