Kobe Bryant Out Indefinitely With Severe Ankle Sprain (VIDEO)

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a terrible 96-92 loss to the short-handed Atlanta Hawks tonight. Not only that, but Kobe Bryant went down with a severe left ankle injury late in the fourth quarter, and the team says he’s out indefinitely. Bryant says it’s the worst sprain he’s had since the 2000 NBA Finals. Per the LA Times and OC Register: “Bryant left the game after the Lakers committed a foul. He did not return. X-rays were negative. He was seen limping across the locker room, his ankle taped, before he disappeared into the trainer’s room. Bryant had 31 points but did not shoot well, missing 22 of 33 shots. The Lakers (34-32) had been playing well, winning four consecutive games, but took a step back by losing to the injury-depleted Hawks. [...] Kobe, referring to the foot he landed on in the 2000 NBA Finals vs. Indiana, said about Dahntay Jones: ‘He Jalen Rose’d me.’”

That Dontae Jones or whatever his name is is going straight to hell for doing that. Dirty @sshole. Congrats, you got your fifteen minutes. F*cking idiot.

Let’s not talk about who is and isn’t going to hell for what they do on a basketball court.

    Kobe raped a girl…..

  • zogs19994

    HE WENT UNDER HIM!!!
    AAAHHHH

  • zogs19994

    KOBE RAPED YO MAMA

  • Dagger

Whether you hate the Lakers or love them, hate Kobe or love him, nobody wants to see this. Hope he comes back soon, and strong.

  • Name

What? How did you expect him to land? This is not a Bruce Bowen cheap shot where he would just put his foot under the shooter after a regular shot, Kobe was going full-speed and pulled up for a fadeaway. The only way to guard Kobe in the dying seconds of a game is to stick to him and that’s what Danthay did

  • robb

he’s going straight to hell. Period.

  • robb

    sure he did, buddy

  • Bojangles

Except for the Jazz, Rockets and Warriors

  • Lingo

If he wanted to do that he could have done it on one of the 33 shots Kobe took before that

  • Dymez

You do realize you’re saying this in defense of a man who went on a binge, smacking people in the face with his elbow on jumpshots, right?

Realistically they should be able to hold onto the 8th unless Kobe is gone for a long time, the Jazz are the only threat to take the spot from them and they haven’t exactly been great lately.

Luke Skywalker’s “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” comes to mind when you watch this video.

  • Caboose

I still like LA’s playoff chances.

  • Conor

Terrible play by Jones. He should be suspended, indefinitely.

Los Angeles was only in that position because Kobe, Nash, and MWP kept missing layups and open shots. Other than the 20-point third quarter, Bryant was out of rhythm. Howard took nine shots, for some reason.

At least this will accomplish several things:

    i. Justice (or so one hopes).
ii. The realization of, potentially, their most potent weapon: the Nash/Howard PnR.
iii. Blake will get more minutes. And Ebanks may come in handy.
iv. Kobe will get some rest for his body before the Playoffs begin in earnest.

I believe Nash and Howard will play splendidly together. Like Blake and Jamison do for the second unit.

People need to look back at the J Rose video to see how far he extended his foot to make sure Kobe landed vs. D Jones simply jumping into him with his hip. Looked more like a (missed) foul than a dirty play. With that being said, seems unlikely his intent was to go under him and risk fouling Kobe with only a 2 point lead simply to injure a player they wont see again this season. Just saying…

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

The troll’s are strong in this thread, everyone remotely supporting the lakers have been downvoted lol.

  • Drig

This ain’t the first time D.Jones has tried to go at Kobe. I have no problem with him trying to contest the shot but I don’t see why his leg had to be a bit extended especially when he knew Kobe was in the air and was gonna land there.

It wasn’t as bad as his fouls in the Denver series but this was unnecessary IMO.

  • thirst_quencher

I think it`s safe to say that Jones did “stick to him” on at least one of the 33 shots being that Bryant missed 22 of them? I think the 22 missed shots had more impact on the outcome of the game than this “alleged” dirty play by Jones.

  • Drig

I see another guy named “Drig” who posted something……….Sigh.

Anyways, there’s no way for a person to land on someone else’s foot on a fadeaway unless it’s exactly underneath the foot if I know it correctly. So I don’t think he did that on purpose. However, the foul itself by Jones while Kobe was mid-air was what caused Kobe to lose his balance and sprain his ankle. A foul should’ve been called which would’ve helped LAL win the game.

Jones is an idiot if he thinks a fadeaway is possible from that angle without having one of his feet come in front of the body. Kobe didn’t kick out his leg on purpose. It’s the way the fadeaway happens if you have a bad angle and need to create some separation from the angle. BS move from Jones to try and deflect the blame.

Kobe was unlucky. But Jones better cut that crap because his history with Kobe doesn’t put him in very good light. Plus, I’m not a fan of his reaction. Esp. when Kobe was clearly hurt…….

Worst comment i’ve ever seen on slam

  • jub_al

im not a Kobe fan, but that was straight up blatant if you ask me…
Jones was done competing against the shot…. He didnt stay in the air with kobe and he had absolutely no reason to stick his leg out like that…. except to slew-foot Kobe.

  • Mike Mihalow

If you’re intentionally trying to injure someone, why do it with 3 sec left? Wouldn’t you have done it earlier, to someone in your division maybe?
LIKE OMG HE ES GOIN 2 DA HELLZ!!!!111ONE

  • Max

    Broooooooooo

  • Max

    1. Dahntay Jones, this is how you spell his name people.
    2. It was unintentional.
    3. Since when does he play for the Hawks?

  • Drig

They also have a pretty nasty schedule down the stretch. As long as the Lakers win the games they’re supposed to win and finally beat Houston, they’ll be in as 8 seed.

  • The Seed

Bruce Bowen one of the dirtiest players ever, stated that it was a questionable/dirty play. D. Jones decided to keep moving toward Kobe after the ball left his hands. Jones did not jump with him, he walked into him. D. Jones almost let Kobe shoot, then walked into him while he was shooting.

  • RayJr

Really dude? After almost 10 years I find it’s funny and pathetic that when people who r Kobe haters and can’t think of anything to say against him about what he does ON the court bring this up.

  • http://twitter.com/vannshy vannshy

watch at 0:47, for me the way Dahntay extended his right leg is not natural, he clearly tried to go under him

  • Pretty obvious, he walked under him after the show and exactly on the place where Bryant was going to land. Now jones is saying that Kobe did the leg kick to create contact but that was his normal fade away jumper…

    Truth.

  • TV63

Did you see him high fiving everyone afterwards? He seen him on the floor injured. He knew exactly what he got away with.

  • initbruv

The Jazz sure don’t look interested in the playoffs at this point.

  • http://twitter.com/_DFrance DFrance

I think he was just trying to put in perspective that real life things determine whether you go to heaven or hell, not what you do in a game. With that said, if you intentionally harm another person in said game, it’sgotta hurt your chances. That’s if you believe in all that heaven/hell crap anyway. #OkBye

  • http://twitter.com/_DFrance DFrance

What I was always taught as a basketball player was not to foul a jumpshooter. One surefire way to foul a jumpshooter is to walk into them as they shoot. Jones can claim that he wasn’t trying to injure Kobe, but he was definitely trying to cause some sortof ddisruption by walking into him.

  • nike_head

That’s exactly what I thought too. Throw in the leg sweep Jones attempted on Kobe in the playoffs a few years ago, and to me it seems like its pretty obvious what he did.

  • RayJr

I dont think he’s that smart but I get what you are saying.

  • Mattdub

Think it’s hilarious how some idiots are saying this deserves an indefinite suspension. Much worse things happen in the nba and guys don’t even get suspended. Or get one game

  • LakeShow

Well said. Think of how stupid it would be to foul on that play given it was a two point game and KB missed the jumper… IMO, that should have been a foul…
I’m afraid more players will do this if the refs don’t make a concerted effort to make a point that this is not tolerable.

    lol thanks

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

I know I was just trying to make a point

  • Ses

Im not a Kobe Fan by far, but there is no doubt that this was a dirty play by Jones. He clearing extended his leg under him and knew Kobe would come down awkwardly. I guess the motto is “if you can beat him, then hurt him’! (See 80′s Detroit Bad boys!)

  • Lloyd

There should be no discussion about whether it’s a dirty play or not, just how much Dahntay Jones should be fined

  • Shmomo

After complaining about Dwight not wanting it bad enough and playing through an injury, It will be interesting to see if Kobe sits out.

  • Conor

Two days have already proven my theories (Ebanks was a joke for other Laker fans; he doesn’t play), haha

As for the conclusion of ”five missed layups cost LA a two-point (four because of free throws) game”: that is clearly why Atlanta won. Did you even watch the game?

The NBA admitted the officials and Jones both cheated. That is all.
